Shiflett, a freshman from Richmond, Va., had one of the best weeks for a Hornet hitter this season. Shiflett had three hits or more in five of the six games this week, posting four knocks in a 15-2 win over Guilford. In that same contest, he had a team-high six RBI. On the week, the freshman posted 17 hits, four doubles and 12 RBI. He was also successful on both of his stolen base attempts, and score eight times.
Baseball Player Honor Roll
Andrew Chrismer, Bridgewater, Senior - Outfield
Chrismer hit for a .526 average (10-for-19) in five games
this past week. Chrismer was 3-for-4 at Catholic and was 4-for-7 in
a DH vs. Guilford with a double, triple and homer and five RBIs. He
closed out the week with a 3-for-5 effort and three RBIs in a loss
at Lynchburg. He finished the week with a .842 slugging
percentage.
Ben Wise, Eastern Mennonite, Junior - Outfield
Wise had three runs, three RBIs, a homerun and a steal in
each of the games of a two-game season-ending sweep of
Roanoke. Wise finished the week with a .625 batting average
(5-8), with six runs, six RBIs, two stolen bases and one
walk. He had a slugging percentage of 1.625, as the junior
also had a pair of doubles. Wise finished the season as the
team leader in homeruns, runs, stolen bases and sacrifice flies as
the Royals finished seventh in the ODAC.
Alex Starbuck, Guilford, Senior - Outfield
Starbuck hit a team-best .417 with a club-high five hits
in Guilford’s 1-3 week… had two hits in losses to
league-rivals Lynchburg and Bridgewater… tied the school
record with his 17th double of the season versus
Bridgewater… finished the year as Guilford’s leading
hitter (.370).
Bryan Hannum, Randolph-Macon, Senior - 1st Base/DH
Hannum went 4-for-8 with a homerun, a double, and three
RBI in Randolph-Macon’s doubleheader with Hampden-Sydney on
Saturday. In his first at bat of game one, Hannum belted a solo
homerun to give the Yellow Jackets an early led. Bryan sparked the
R-MC offense in game two against H-SC with an RBI double to give
Randolph-Macon the lead on the way to an 18-6 win.
Mike Marion, Virginia Wesleyan, Senior - 1st Base/DH
Marion helped VWC to a 3-0 week, helped by a
record-setting effort against Newport News Apprentice. He hit
3-for-4 in that game, driving in a VWC record eight RBI, two shy of
the Virginia record of 10 set by Ferrum’s Chad Maddox in
1995. Marion ripped two home runs against Apprentice, marking
his fifth game this season with multiple homers. He hit
5-for-9 in the three games during the week, scoring three times
himself and driving in 10 runs. He also posted a
double. Marion now has 18 home runs, which ties the ODAC
record set by Lynchburg’s Wayne Harrison in 1983.
