James, a sophomore from Greenville, N.C., joins senior teammate Sammy Stuart as Guilford winners of the ODAC’s weekly pitching honor this season. The right-hander was 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA in three appearances last week. James threw four scoreless innings in relief over two weekday contests before posting his first career complete game in the Quakers’ 4-2 win at ODAC-foe Randolph-Macon College Saturday. He scattered eight hits and fanned four in his team-leading third victory of the season.  James is 3-3 this year with a 4.40 ERA in a club-high 15 appearances. In addition to wins and appearances, he leads the Quakers in innings (47) and strikeouts (28). James is 3-0 with a 3.13 ERA and 15 strikeouts in six ODAC games. 

Baseball Pitcher Honor Roll

Joseph Lucas, Bridgewater, Sophomore
Lucas pitched a complete-game, 6-hitter Saturday to help the Eagles salvage a split in a key ODAC doubleheader with Lynchburg. Lucas blanked the Hornets on three hits through the first eight innings. He lost his shutout in the ninth when Lynchburg put together three hits for its two runs. He struck out four and walked one in the 5-2 victory to improve his season record to 4-3 while lowering his ERA to 2.53.

Andy Richter, Eastern Mennonite, Junior
Richter was at his best on Saturday, throwing a one-run complete game in a victory over York (Pa.).  Richter struck out eight and scattered eight hits and a walk over nine innings as he picked up his second win of the season.  The junior also pitched in relief for  a couple of innings in a loss at Washington & Lee on Wednesday.

James Womack, Lynchburg, Freshman
Womack pitched a win against conference opponent Bridgewater College on Saturday, giving up four hits and one unearned run while striking out three…Bridgewater hit .200 against him…has a 5-3 record this season.

Michael Helbig, Randolph-Macon, Sophomore
Helbig picked up his sixth win of the season in a 14-4 victory over Guilford on Saturday. The righty struck out four and issued no free passes.

Mark Wimmer, Roanoke, Sophomore
Wimmer struck out eight batters in six innings in a 16-8 win over Emory & Henry last week.  He game up three runs (two earned) on three hits while only walking one.
