MARK MANTHE, Roanoke, Sophomore, Infielder

Manthe, a sophomore from Blacksburg, Va., batted .529 (9-for-17) with three doubles and eight runs batted in as he led the Maroons to a 3-1 record last week.  He also scored five runs, walked twice and stole a base.  Manthe went a career-high 4-for-5 with three runs, a double and five RBI in the first game of a split series against Emory & Henry.  He followed that with a pair of two-baggers as part of a 3-for-4 day with two RBI in a win over Virginia Intermont.  For the season, Manthe leads Roanoke with several offensive categories including batting avereage (.304), hits (34), runs (17), doubles (11), homers (3) and RBI (24).

Baseball Player Honor Roll

Dylan Smith, Eastern Mennonite, Junior, Catcher
Smith continues to raise his batting average as the junior batted .571 last week.  He also scored three of EMU’s eight runs over the two games.  In Saturday’s win over York (Pa.), Smith was hit by a pitch in the first inning and scored what turned out to be the winning run in a 6-1 decision.  Smith went 3-4 in Wednesday’s game at Washington & Lee and scored one of the Royals’ two runs.  The 2010 ODAC batting champ is eighth in the league in batting average while being second in hit by pitches and third in walks. He is second in the conference in on-base percentage as well.

D.J. Phillips, Guilford, Sophomore, Shortstop
Phillips Hit a team-high .467 in the Quakers’ 1-3 week… had seven hits in 15 at-bats, including two doubles… scored three runs… cleanly fielded all 16 chances in the field… notched his 13th multiple-hit game of the season with three hits against Greensboro… also had three hits a day earlier at Averett… saw his season-long nine-game hitting streak in the second game of the twinbill at Randolph-Macon when he left the game with a shoulder injury.

Brian Jordan, Randolph-Macon, Junior, Outfielder
Jordan went 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBI in the Yellow Jackets 14-4 win over Guilford on Saturday. Earlier in the week against second ranked Christopher Newport he led the R-MC attack with three hits.

Shayne Paskanik, Virginia Wesleyan, Junior, Outfielder
Paskanik enjoyed another productive effort in a 3-0 week for Virginia Wesleyan.  He hit at a .538 clip, driving in six runs and scoring three.  He tied a season high with 3 RB in a 12-9 victory over Methodist University.  He also had three hits against MU and four overall in a sweep of emory & Henry.  Paskanikbelted a home run against E&H, his second of the season.
