 Offensive Player of the Week

Luke Heinsohn| Washington and Lee| Sr.| Running Back
Heinsohn, a senior from Charlottesville, Va., helped lead Washington and Lee to a 42-21 win over Guilford on Saturday by rushing for 146 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. He had a pair of 13-yard touchdown runs --- one to close the first half and the other to open the second half --- and a 1-yard burst just before the end of the third quarter. Heinsohn, who also serves as the Generals' kicker, converted six PATs to finish with 24 total points and became the Washington & Lee all-time scoring leader in the process. Heinsohn now has 228 career points, eclipsing the former record of 220 held by Marc Watson since the 2001 season. That total is also just 24 points from cracking the top-five all-time in the ODAC. For the year, Heinsohn leads the ODAC with 486 yards and nine touchdowns on 78 carries. His 72 points also lead the league.

 Defensive Player of the Week

 Cross Trued| Randolph-Macon| Sr.| Defensive End
Trued, a senior from Lorton, Va., was a mainstay in Emory & Henry's backfield on Saturday as the Randolph-Macon upended the previously undefeated Wasps, 22-10. Trued recorded 2.5 quarterback sacks that cost E&H 22 yards of offense. He made 3.0 stops behind the line of scrimmage in total, accounting for 23 yards lost. Trued and teammate Calvin Davis combined on a 10-yard sack in the third quarter, and the senior lineman had a pair of solo efforts in the fourth quarter, one for a loss of seven yards and the other for another 10-yard setback for E&H. Trued finished the contest with six total stops.

Team News and Notes

BRIDGEWATER's offense fired on all cylinders on Saturday afternoon at Apprentice to return to Bridgewater unscathed with a 44-14 victory over the host Builders. Bridgewater scored 23 unanswered points to open the contest, led by junior quarterback Willie Logan and sophomore running back Jacob Wright. Logan started the game 11-of-12 passing, while it took Wright less than a half to eclipse the 100-yard barrier. On the day, Logan threw for 293 yards and three scores, while Wright crossed the century mark with 110 yards on 14 carries. Bridgewater's 582 total yards on the day is the highest total for an Eagles team since a victory over Hanover in 2005.  The Eagles' defense was up to the task all afternoon. Linebackers Alex Collins and Andrew Palmer paced the unit with eight tackles each. Bridgewater limited Apprentice to just 104 yards through the first three quarters of play, before the Builders added nearly 100 yards in the fourth quarter against the Eagles' second unit. As the rest of the conference slate looms, the Bridgewater defense leads the league in every major statistical category.

NEXT WEEK: vs. Hampden-Sydney (2-2, 0-1 ODAC) - 1:00 p.m.
Bridgewater and Hampden-Sydney meet for the 69th time on Saturday in a series that began in 1929.  The two squads have combined to win eight of the past 11 ODAC titles.  The Tigers currently own a five-game winning streak against the Eagles with Bridgewater's last with over Hampden-Sydney coming on the grass at Jopson Field in 2006 by a 31-13 score. Hampden-Sydney reigned supreme last season at Everett Stadium in a 28-14 victory.  H-SC signal-caller Travis Lane fired a pair of touchdown passes while Kirk Rohle ran for 134 yards and a pair of scores.  BC got a TD pass from Carlos Gonzalez and 85 yards rushing from Anthony Carter.

CATHOLIC racked up 428 yards of offense vs. Hampden-Sydney, including 126 on the ground and 302 through the air, in the Cardinals 41-28 win. Alonzo Cooke finished with a career high tying 10 receptions for 135 yards and a pair of scores. Cooke caught scoring strikes of 26 and 42 yards in the second quarter to help the Cardinals open up a 20-7 lead on the Tigers. Mike Pitsenberger rushed for three touchdowns to lead the ground attack, while Greg Cordivari went 26-of-38 for 302 yards and two touchdowns without and interception through the air. The Cardinals finished with 21 first downs, were 3-of-5 on fourth down conversions and dominated the time-of-possession battle, 37:28 to 22:32.  CUA's defense played its best game of the year on Saturday, forcing five Hampden-Sydney turnovers and registering four sacks. The Cardinals picked the Tigers off three times, with Timbo McGarry, Kevin Ross and Patrick Thomas notching INTs, and also recovered two fumbles. Conor Stueckler led the way with seven tackles, including 1.5 for loss, as well as a sack and a pass breakup. Along with Stueckler, Vinny Cortese, Andrew Pitsenberger and Rob Schaetzl registered sacks. CUA held Hampden-Sydney to only 251 yards of total offense, and forced the Tigers into a 3-of-11 showing on 3rd down and an 0-for-4 day on fourth down.

NEXT WEEK: Friday at Randolph-Macon (3-1, 1-0 ODAC) - 7:00 p.m.
Randolph-Macon and Catholic will square off for the 34th time on Friday evening in Ashland, continuing a series that began in 1916.  R-MC leads the all-time series 19-13-1 including a five game-winning streak dating back to the 2007 season.  Saturday's game marks the first home night game in R-MC history as the New Day Field will play host to the Yellow Jackets and Cardinals under the lights.  Last season, Zac Naccarato threw for a career-high 372 yards and four touchdowns as the Yellow Jackets knocked off Catholic 51-34 in the nation's capital.  Naccarato finished the day 25-of-31 passing.  Christian Cook was able to grab 13 balls for 212 yards on the night.  Vance Hendren ran for two touchdowns and caught seven passes for 104 yards and a score as well for R-MC.  CUA got a trio of touchdown pass from Greg Cordivari, including one to Alonzo Cooke as part of his 10-catch 165-yard day.  Mike Pitsenberger ran for 103 yards which included a 33-yard touchdown run.

NEXT WEEK: at Washington and Lee (3-1, 1-0 ODAC) - 1:30 p.m.
Washington and Lee and Emory & Henry will be meeting for the 42nd time, with the Wasps holding a 28-13 advantage in the all-time series that began during the 1921 season.  E&H won 19-straight meetings between 1983-2001, but the Generals have recovered to win six of the last eight encounters, including each of the last two.  Last season, W&L claimed a 17-14 win in Emory on a 40-yard field goal as time expired.  The two squads combined for 976 yards of offense despite the relatively low-scoring result.  W&L, predominantly a rushing team, boasted a strong balance with 235 yards passing with 271 yards rushing.  E&H threw for 310 yards while also running for 160.  Both teams featured long passing plays for scores as Kyle Boden and Adrian Jordan connected on a 61-yard touchdown pass while Charlie Westfal and Russell Stewart hooked up for a 55-yard scoring play.  Aside from a 45-point explosion in 2010, the Wasps have held the Generals’ offense in check as W&L has averaged just 16.0 points per game in the other four contests over the last five years.

GUILFORD quarterback Mitch Ferrick made his college debut with 1:33 left in the ballgame and directed the Quakers on an 11-play, 68-yard scoring drive capped by a nine-yard touchdown pass to Austen Thompson. The scoring play marked Ferrick's first TD pass and Thompson's first TD catch... Nick Mearite made a game-high seven receptions versus Washington and Lee... Senior Mike Williams gained 40 rushing yards on eight carries against Washington and Lee, which lowered his average yards per carry total this season to 7.3  Satiir Stevenson set a personal best with a game-high 15 tackles versus Washington and Lee. HAMPDEN-SYDNEY got off to a slow start in its 41-28 loss to Catholic as they tallied 251 yards of offense on 198 passing and 53 rushing yards. The Tigers scored one touchdown in the second quarter on a John Michael Sparagna three-yard reception from Nash Nance, but would not score again until the fourth quarter. The Tigers outscored Catholic 21-7 in the final stanza as sophomore receiver Holton Walker hauled in touchdown passes of 37- and 26-yards. Senior running back Regis Craft also found the end zone on a 15-yard run. On the day, Walker tallied a game-high 150 yards and two touchdowns on eight catches. Catholic recorded 428 yards of total offense while throwing for 302 yards and two touchdowns, and running for 126 yards and four scores.
