Offensive Player of the Week
Kyle Boden| Emory & Henry| Jr.| Quarterback
Boden, a junior from Knoxville, Tenn., led the Wasps to 38 unanswered points as Emory & Henry recovered from an early 10 deficit to post a season-closing 38-10 win over Guilford on Saturday. Boden completed 22-of-35 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 65 yards on six carries, including a 38-yard burst to setup his final touchdown pass of the day. His 388 yards of total offense are the sixth-best by an E&H player all-time, and it helped the Wasps to their first 500-plus yard day since October 30, 2004, against Catholic. Boden connected with 10 different receivers on the day, firing touchdown passes to Lucas Kirby, Sam Edmonds, Cleo Cooper and Brandon Terry. Boden finishes the season second in the ODAC in passing yardage (2,511) and passing touchdowns (18).

Defensive Player of the Week
DeMikeal Burse| Emory & Henry| Jr.| Def. Back
Burse, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., helped the Wasps stifle Guilford's offense in the final 40 minutes of the game. After surrendering 10 points to go down 10-0, the Wasps kept Guilford off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest. Burse made two plays in the end zone to aid in that effort. He made his first play on fourth down from the E&H 23-yard line in the first quarter. With E&H already trailing 7-0, Burse broke up a pass in the Wasps' end zone to keep the score where it was. With just seconds left on the first half clock and E&H leading 16-10, Burse came up big again as he intercepted the GC quarterback in the end zone and returned it 27 yards to preserve the Wasps advantage at halftime. Burse finished the day with five passes defensed in addition to seven tackles (five solo) and a half-tackle for a loss of two yards.
BRIDGEWATERused six Catholic miscues
to roll up a season-high 42 points in a 42-14 victory over Catholic
in the season finale in Washington, D.C. Bridgewater picked off
Greg Cordivari four times and recorded five total picks and
recovered one Cordivari fumble en route to earning its seventh
victory of the season. Junior quarterback Willie Logan rushed for a
game-high 97 yards, while throwing for 245 and two scores on
17-of-22 passing. Bridgewater rolled out to a 28-0 lead early in
the third quarter, while Catholic opened the game with turnovers on
four of its first five possessions. Defensively, the Eagles five
interceptions matches their highest total since a five-interception
performance in 2007 in a 76-28 victory over Guilford. The Eagles
limited Catholic to 227 yards of total offense in the win.
Bridgewater finished the year with a 7-3 record, earning the
program's fourth straight winning season.
CATHOLICclosed out 2012 with
a 42-14 loss to Bridgewater on Saturday. The Cardinals turned the
ball over six times, including five interceptions. Bridgewater
scored 21 points off the TOs, and led 28-0 before CUA got on the
board. Mike Pitsenberger scored one of CUA's two touchdowns,
becoming the first Cardinal with double-digit rushing TDs in a
single season since 2000. CUA converted 7-of-14 third downs on the
day, but was out gained 452 to 227 in total yards. Kevin Ross led
the defense with 11 stops and a sack, while Conor Stueckler totaled
10 tackles to finish the year with 114 total tackles. Stueckler is
the first CUA player with 100+ tackles since 2007. He is
currently tied atop the ODAC for the league lead with Kenny Fryman
from Hampden-Sydney. Stueckler's 75 assisted tackles are #1
in the ODAC.
EMORY & HENRY earned its first winning season
since 2009 Saturday as it defeated Guilford, 38-10. The Wasps
finish the year 6-4 with a 3-4 mark in the ODAC. The E&H
offense picked up 537 yards of offense, its highest production
since October 30, 2004 against Catholic (547 yards). Junior
quarterback Kyle Boden threw for 323 yards on 22-for-35 passing and
four touchdowns and added 65 yards on the ground as the Wasps
scored 38 straight points. Sophomore Lucas Kirby caught seven
passes for 156 yards and a 79-yard touchdown, the longest play of
the year for E&H. Sophomore running back Joe Vaughn
rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown and caught six balls for 80
yards. Junior Cleo Cooper and sophomores Sam Edmonds and
Brandon Terry each caught touchdown passes as well for the
Wasps. Despite allowing 10 straight points to start the game,
the Emory & Henry defense held strong for the final 40 minutes
of the contest, allowing the Wasp offense the opportunity to rack
up 38 points. E&H forced two interceptions and a fumble
while the special teams benefitted from a safety on a snap that
went over the Guilford punter’s head and out of the end
zone. Junior linebacker Paul Forney had a team-high nine

with a 27-yard return and four passes broken up.
GUILFORD freshman wide
receiver Adam Smith hauled in nine passes for 170 yards against
E&H, both serving as game-high marks. He missed his
career receptions high by one. It was his fourth game with
100 or more receiving yards this season, leaving him with 874 yards
to rank 11th on Guilford’s all-time receiving lists.
Rookie quarterback Matt Pawlowski wrapped up the best passing
season by a quarterback not named Josh Vogelbach in school history.
He finished with 205 completions for 2,443 yards and 2,670 total
offensive yards, all of which stand fifth on the Quakers'
single-season lists. His 15 touchdowns rank eighth in school
history. Tyler Hunt kicked another field goal, his 10th of
the season, which stands third in school history. He made 10-of-13
field goals on the year for a 76.9 percentage, which is also
third-best at Guilford. Senior Mike Williams wrapped up his
career with 1,609 rushing yards, the sixth-best total in school
history. He averaged 5.45 yards per carry in his career, the
Quakers' fourth-best figure, and picked up a personal-best 717
rushing yards in 2012, which is 10th at Guilford. As a team
Guilford completed 60.4% of it passes, the second-best completion
percentage in school history. Defensively, Jaylan Martin made
a career-high 10 tackles, eight solo, and his first college
interception in Guilford's loss at Emory & Henry. Despite
being slowed by nagging injuries down the stretch, sophomore
linebacker Robert Smith finished with a team-leading 108 tackles
this season, the eighth-best total in school history and most by a
Quaker since 2009. He had seven games with 10 or more
tackles. Guilford made 26 sacks this season, which stands
sixth in school history. Guilford's five wins are its most
since the 2007 club went 6-4. The Quakers may return as many as
nine offensive starters, nine defensive starters and the team's top
kicker and punter in 2013.
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY compiled 485 yards of offense via 172
rushing and 313 passing but fell 41-31 to arch-rival Randolph-Macon

accuracy and ran for another 119 yards and two touchdowns on just
six carries. Sophomore receiver Holton Walker hauled in seven
passes for a game-high 129 yards and a score. He ends the season

which was recovered by Dion Berry. Zach Morgan and John Moore each
had nine stops, and Steven Fogleman notched eight.
RANDOLPH-MACONcapped the 2012 season with a
41-31 victory over archrival Hampden-Sydney in the 118th edition of
“The Game.” R-MC has now defeated H-SC in
back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1999 and 2000.
The 41 points on Saturday and 48 in the 2011 contest marks the
first time R-MC has scored 40 or more points in consecutive years
against H-SC since 1997 & 1998. R-MC has now posted seven
or more wins in three consecutive seasons for the first time since
1996-1998. Will McGhee led a rushing attack for R-MC that
rolled up 281 yards, leading to the Jackets holding the ball for
44:30 of the contest against the Tigers. McGhee
finishes his junior campaign with 1,276 yards on the
ground. That total is the most for an R-MC running back
since the 2008 season and is the third highest total for an R-MC
back since 1980. McGhee’s 6.0 yards per rush is the
most for a Yellow Jacket running back with 100 or more carries
since Remon Smith averaged 6.5 each time he ran the ball in
1986.
SHENANDOAH saw its first ODAC football
campaign come to a close with a 42-23 set-back to Washington and
Lee on Saturday. The Hornets finished the year with a 1-9
overall mark and a 0-8 record in conference play. Senior
linebacker Jajuan Johnson with 107 total tackles to place fourth in
the ODAC. That number, along with his 55 solo tackles, set
Shenandoah program records. His 52 assisted stops tie for the
SU all-time record. Freshman running back Andrew Smith
finished strong for the Hornets as he churned out a game-high 112
yards and two touchdowns against W&L. In his final two
games, Smith racked up 239 yards and four toucdowns on 49 carries
(4.9 yards per rush). His seven total rushing touchdowns are
good for second-best in the SU record books. Defensive back
Brandon Martin is one of four players in the ODAC with four
interceptions to sit atop the conference charts. He's joined
by Guilford's Satiir Stevenson and Washington and Lee's Jake
Pelton. Pelton still has an opportunity to add to his total
with the Generals entering NCAA play this coming week.
WASHINGTON AND LEE improved its home winning streak
to 14 games with the 42-23 win over Shenandoah on Saturday.
The Generals have not lost a home game since a 20-10 setback
against Averett in the 2010 home opener. Senior running back
Sasha Vandalov rushed for 79 yards and a career-high three
touchdowns in the win over Shenandoah. He now has 569 yards and
nine touchdowns this season on just 70 carries. Junior
quarterback Nick Lombardo rushed for 59 yards on 15 carries and
completed 7-of-9 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. He has
now rushed for 994 yards and four touchdowns on 183 carries.
He can become the first quarterback in school history with
1,000 yards rushing in a season with six more yards. In
addition, it would mark the first time in school history that two
players have rushed for 1,000 or more yards in a season (running
back Luke Heinsohn is second in the ODAC with 1,168 yards on the
ground). W&L finished the regular season at 8-2 overall,
the program's third-straight eight-win season. W&L is
24-7 overall the last three seasons, the best three-year stretch
since the 1960-62 teams finished 25-1-1 overall. If the
Generals could win their first round game in the NCAA Tournament,
it would be the first nine-win season since the 1961 team went 9-0
and finished as the top small college team in the nation.
NEXT WEEK: at Hobart College (10-0, 7-0 in Liberty League) - 12:00
p.m. Washington and Lee will make the trip to
Geneva, N.Y. and Boswell Field to take on Hobart College in the
first round of the NCAA Division III Football Tournament.
Saturday's contest will mark the first meeting between the
two squads. The Generals enter the game having earned their
spot in the NCAA Tournament as the champions of the ODAC. The
Statesman also earned an automatic bid into the field of 32 teams
as they went 7-0 to capture the Liberty League title. The
Generals have played two prior NCAA Tournament contests, dropping a
42-0 decision to Wilkes in 2006 and a 42-14 contest to Thomas More
in 2010. Hobart is making its making its second
consecutive and seventh overall NCAA playoff appearance. The
Statesmen are 4-6 all-time in NCAA play.
