BRIDGEWATER overcame three turnovers in posting its 38-22 triumph over Gettysburg College, making amends for the 49-10 setback the Eagles encountered in 2015. Tight end Keith Jennings caught five passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns, including a 65-yard catch and run to open the game's scoring. Quarterback Brendon Maturey tossed three touchdown passes against one interception while also running for 101 yards in 16 carries. Defensively, the Eagles' starters kept Gettysburg off the board, which also is a stark contrast to the rushing yardage record allowed by BC last season. Tyler Miller led the unit with nine tackles and a sack, while captain Davey Hardesty made six stops with a sack and a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown.

NEXT WEEK: vs. vs. Thomas More (0-1, 0-0 PAC) - 1:00 PM

CATHOLIC recovered from a 21-6 fourth-quarter deficit to post a 28-21 triumph in overtime over McDaniel. Jorge Pola connecdted with Lucas Morley on a 3-yard TD pass in the extra frame, the second of two straight scoring passes between the two. Pola threw for 246 yars and the two scores against two interceptions. He also led CUA with 70 yards rushing and a touchdown. Morley finished with six catches for 43 yards.  The Cardinals defense made the OT touchdown stand up as it stopped MCD on its overtime possession after three incomplete passes. Ross Sanford led the unit with 10 tackles and a sack, while Mark Dimatteo and Justin Paige pulled in interceptions. Paige also blocked a kick that was recovered for a touchdown and broke up two passes with seven tackles. Liam McGuinness added a sack.

NEXT WEEK: at Rochester (N.Y.) (0-0, 0-0 Liberty League) - 12:00 PM
Catholic and Rochester will meet for the first time on Saturday, with the contest also serving as the season-opener for the Yellow Jackets.
EMORY & HENRY opened the 2016 season with a 39-38 loss to Ferrum College at W.B. Adams Stadium … With the loss, the Wasps’ nine-game winning streak dating back to 2005 against the Panthers was snapped … It is the first time since 2006 that E&H has opened the season with a loss … The 39 points scored by Ferrum are the most in the series since the Panthers put up 43 points in a 43-21 win in 1994 … E&H rushed for 111 yards and passed for 235, making 346 yards of total offense … The Wasps opened up a 21-0 lead midway through the second quarter and held a 21-7 advantage at the break … With a 28-15 advantage through three, Emory & Henry appeared to be in the driver’s seat once again, but Ferrum scored 24 points in the closing 15 minutes, converting two-point conversions on each of their three scores … After the Panthers tied it up at 31 with 1:17 remaining, Kendrick Kube took the ensuing kickoff 97 yards to put the Wasps back up 38-31 … FC then put up a game-winning drive where they went 68 yards in five plays capped by an 18 yard touchdown catch by Johnny White … Harvey Taylor scored the two-point conversion to put Ferrum up 39-38 with just seven seconds to play, their only lead of the game ... Kevin Saxton threw for  235 yards and two touchdowns on 24-for-42 passing … Saxton hit eight different receivers on the day including Jesse Santiago (six rec., 86 yds., 1 TD) … Sam Wagner scored twice on the ground in the first quarter and finished the game with 46 yards on eight carries … Defensively, E&H allowed Ferrum to score only once on their first 10 drives, but the Panthers came alive late in the game, finding paydirt on four of their last five possessions ... He forced and recovered a fumble on one of his sacks, which set up Guilford's third touchdown of the game. Ziah also broke up a pass attempt. Hunter Hoots led the Quakers with 10 tackles....
