READ THE ODAC FOOTBALL REPORT: WEEK 3
ODAC teams found the going tough in week three with just a pair of victories heading into each program's bye week. Bridgewater College remains undefeated with a win this weekend to move to 3-0, while a triumph out west for Washington and Lee University improves the Generals' record to a 2-1, joining three other league squads at that mark.
THE GAMES
BRIDGEWATER 52, APPRENTICE SCHOOL 0 -- Box Score
Bridgewater scored 21 points in both the first and third quarters on the way to avenging last season's loss to Apprentice School with a 52-0 shutout of the Builders on Saturday.
MARYVILLE (TENN.) 56, EMORY & HENRY 46 -- Box Score
Down 35-17 early in the third quarter, Emory & Henry stormed back to take a 46-42 lead with 11:27 to play. Maryville (Tenn.) closed with a pair of touchdowns to go back on top and eventually pull out a 56-46 win.
DAVIDSON 42, GUILFORD 21 -- Box Score
NCAA Division I FCS-member Davidson put up 35 points in the second quarter on the way to 42 markers in the first half, carrying it to a 42-21 victory over Guilford.
WISCONSIN-PLATTEVILLE 38, HAMPDEN-SYDNEY 29 -- Box Score
Hampden-Sydney owned an early 13-0 lead and again went ahead 29-21 at halftime, but three lost fumbles and a Wisconsin-Platteville defense that pitched a second-half shutout resulted in a 38-29 result for UW-P.
CATHOLIC 25, RANDOLPH-MACON 20 -- Box Score
Four turnovers hampered Randolph-Macon's efforts on Saturday in Washington, D.C., at former ODAC football member Catholic University posted a 25-20 win over the Yellow Jackets.
HOBART 56, SHENANDOAH 30 -- Box Score
Seventeen second-quarter points helped Shenandoah to a 23-21 halftime lead, but Hobart outscored the Hornets, 35-7, over the final 30 minutes on the way to a 56-30 win in New York.
WASHINGTON AND LEE 24, CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS 14 -- Box Score
Washington and Lee picked up just 305 yards of offense on Saturday afternoon, but the defense pitched a first-half shutout to help Generals' post a 24-14 over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, Calif.
ODAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSE: Washington and Lee running back Walker Brand, a senior from Roanoke, Va., added to his impressive total of early season rushing touchdowns in helping Washington and Lee improve to 2-1 on the season with a 24-14 triumph at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Brand entered the contest with the Stags tied for the NCAA Division III lead with seven rushing scores and he added two more in the Generals second win of the season. He carried the ball 21 times for a career-high 154 yards that included a pair of one-yard scoring bursts. He did not lose any yards on any one of his 21 carries and had four runs of 10 yards or longer. He setup his first score with a 49-yard sprint before pounding it it for an early 7-0 lead. Brand's second TD came on W&L's first possession of the second half where he capped a 14-play drive in which he carried the ball 11 times and accounted for 74 of the series' 93 yards. For the season, Brand has leads the ODAC with nine rushing scores and is second with 385 yards on the ground.
DEFENSE: Bridgewater cornerback Isaac Evans, a junior from Fredericksburg, Va., helped the Eagles limit Apprentice School to just 50 yards thru the air and 211 yards of offense overall in Bridgewater's 52-0 whitewashing of the Builders on Saturday. Evans not only helped BC post its first shutout since the 2013 season-opener (57-0 over St. Vincent), he put 12 points on the board with a pair of pick-sixes. He took back his first interception late in the first quarter, returning the ball 45 yards to paydirt for a 21-0 lead. He struck again at the outset of the second half, turning around his second interception 26 yards for a 31-0 advantage. Evans also contributed on special teams, blocking a 27-yard field goal attempt early in the second quarter. Evans' two pick-sixes give him a school-record four for his career.
