ODAC Football Report | Week 2

FOREST, Va. --- Week two of the new season was much more successful for the seven ODAC schools in action as each picked up a victory. Bridgewater is the lone 2-0 squad in the league table, while Ferrum and Shenandoah joined idle Southern Virginia at 1-0 with road wins. In fact, only Washington and Lee played at home on Sunday, as the Generals along with Guilford, Hampden-Sydney, and Randolph-Macon leveled their records at 1-1. Like SVU, Emory & Henry was idle due to its scheduled bye.

THE GAMES | WEEK 2

BRIDGEWATER 37, STEVENSON 22 | Box Score
Bridgewater pitched a first-half shutout led by a defensive unit headlined by Re'Shaun Myers (12 tackles, 4.0 TFLs, 3.0 sacks) and Gary Ramey, Jr., (9 tackles, 1.5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks) as the Eagles moved to 2-0 with a 37-22 road win at Stevenson. Jay Scroggins accounted for three TDs (2 pass, 1 rush), while Demetreus Jalepes ran for 154 yards and 2 scores.

Emory & Henry was off this week on its scheduled bye date.

FERRUM 55, GREENSBORO 7 | Box Score
Ferrum continued its dominance of Greensboro, posting a 55-7 road win on Saturday. The Panthers have now scored 136 points over the last two victories over The Pride. Brian Mann (144 yards) and Frank Ross (69) each ran in a pair of scores, while Roshun Patterson returned an interception 82-yards for a touchdown.

GUILFORD 19, METHODIST 14 | Box Score
Guilford's defense did an about-face from giving up 69 points to Huntingdon in week one as the unit responded to the challenge by holding Methodist to 14 points and forcing six turnovers in the road win. KeAndre Buyna posted two of those interceptions and forced a fumble, while Khayree Lundy, Jeremiah Hedrick, and Chris Walton, Jr., also picked off passes. Desmond McDowell led the offense with 71 yards and two rushing scores, while Jermaine Russell hauled in six passes for 106 yards.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY 27, CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT 24 (OT) | Box Score
Hampden-Sydney's OT winning effort featured several big plays, including a 4-yard game-winning TD pass from Clay Vick to Dillon Costello to offset Christopher Newport's field goal on the extra frame's opening possession. Jordan Riggs and Brendan Weinberg both put points on the board from the Tigers' defense as they returned INTs 30 and 20 yards, respectively, for touchdowns. Vick, who shook off four interceptions, ran in a touchdown in addition to his game-deciding toss to Costello. Major Morgan led all receivers with 10 catches for 132 yards. He has 23 receptions and 301 yards thru the first two games.

RANDOLPH-MACON 30, AVERETT 27 | Box Score
Randolph-Macon evened its record at 1-1 with a late drive to topple Averett, 30-27, on the road. Tre Frederick, who became the ODAC's all-time leading rusher on the Yellow Jackets' game-winning drive, celebrated his record-breaking day with a 33-yard TD run to give R-MC its first lead of the game with 1:14 to play, resulting in the game-deciding score. Burke Estes rebounded from a tough first game with three TD passes, two of which went to Jordan Foster (2 catches for 85 yards). Bryan Sullivan led the defense with six stops and forced a with 0:59 to play to seal the victory.

SHENANDOAH 35, N.C. WESLEYAN 19 | Box Score
Shenandoah's season may have started a week later than expected, but that didn't keep the Hornets from jumping on N.C. Wesleyan for a 35-19 road win. Rashadeen Byrd, Jr., had a three touchdown game (2 rush, 1 receiving), while Mario Wisdom ran in a pair of scores. Quarterbacks Ben Agostino and Ben Rhodenizer combined to go 32-of-47 for 254 yards, a touchdown, and an inteception. Tyler Williams registered two of SU's five interceptions for the defense. Daquan Pridget, Nate Hill, and Mike Amobi also picked off passes.

SOUTHERN VIRGINIA | Bye
Southern Virginia was off this week on its scheduled bye date.

WASHINGTON AND LEE 42, SEWANEE 7 | Box Score
Washington and Lee racked up 411 of its 529 yards from scrimmage in the second half on the way to a home victory over Sewanee, their 16th straight over the Tigers at Wilson field dating back to their last home loss in 1986. The Generals ran for 498 yards with six rushers posting 45 or more yards on the ground. Quarterback Drew Richardson ran for 131 yards and a touchdown, while Josh Breece scored twice via the ground. Receiver Montgomery Owen accumulated 133 all-purpose yards including 101 punt return yards, the fifth-most in program history. The Generals defense held the Tigers to -7 rushing yards on 26 carries while forcing three turnovers. Fred Behmah led the unit with six stops, while Davis Waldrop intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble.

FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Re'Shaun Myers | Bridgewater | Sr. | Linebacker

Myers, a senior from Ringgold, Va., was all over the gridiron -- especially the Mustangs' backfield -- in Bridgewater's 37-22 victory at Stevenson on Saturday. Myers, the 2018 ODAC Lou Wacker Defensive Player of the Year, led all ODAC players this week with 12 tackles with eight solo stops to lead Bridgewater to a first-half shutout of Stevenson, which was receiving votes towards last week's D3football.com Top-25 poll. Myers registered a league-best 4.0 tackles for a loss that cost Stevenson 20 yards of offense. He was especially effective rushing the passer as he registered 3.0 sacks setting back the Mustangs 18 yards. Two of those sacks were akin to turnovers as he stopped a pair of drives with third-down sacks. Both of those stops led to Bridgewater points, while his final sack came on the Mustangs' last possession before BC ran out the clock for the win. Myers is currently second in the ODAC in tackles (21), first in TFLs (5.0), and tied for first with teammate Gary Ramey, Jr., in sacks (4.0).

FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tre Frederick | Randolph-Macon | Sr. | Running Back

Frederick, a senior from Angier, N.C., was active often and explosive in Randolph-Macon's rushing game to help lead Randolph-Macon to a 30-27 victory at Averett University on Saturday. Frederick ran for an ODAC season-high 198 yards on 29 carries, good for 6.8 per rush. He was especially effective on the game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter. He carried the ball seven times for 56 yards on that possession, including a seven yard-rush late-on that gave him 4,282 yards for his career to become the ODAC's all-time career leading rusher. He celebrated snapping the 32-year old standard set by former Randolph-Macon standout Remon Smith (4,276 yards from 1984-87) by ripping off the would-be game-winning 33-yard touchdown run with with 1:14 to play. The TD scamper was his seventh rush of 10 or more yards in the game. Frederick, who leads the ODAC with 260 yards rushing thru the first two weeks, sits at 4,316 yards on 776 yards (5.6 ypc) for his career.
