ODAC Football Report | Week 5

FOREST, Va. --- ODAC teams returned to action following a league-wide bye with the first of seven straight weeks of conference play. Teams battled varying degrees of inclement weather in addition to their opponents, with Bridgewater College, Randolph-Macon College, Shenandoah University, and Washington and Lee University opening the slate with victories on Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets kept Guilford College off the board in the second half on the way to a 48-19 home win. • GUILFORD AT RANDOLPH-MACON | BOX SCORE
Randolph-Macon trailed Guilford 13-6 after one quarter and led by just one point at 20-19 after halftime, but the Yellow Jackets defense stiffened over the final 30 minutes, allowing the offense to get on track in a 48-19 victory in Ashland. Defensively, R-MC sacked Guilford's quarterback Bailey Baker seven times. Jackson Deaver had 2.0 sacks amongst 5.5 TFLs, while Wade Grubbs had 2.5 sacks. • FERRUM AT SHENANDOAH | BOX SCORE
Shenandoah registered its second shutout of the season in posting a 20-0 home win over Ferrum. Rain featured for much of the game, although it did let up for parts of the second half. Still, SU did most of its damage on the ground. Quarterback Steven Hugney ran for two touchdowns as part of a 56-yard day. Rashadeen Byrd, Jr., carried the ball 18 times for 131 yards and Markell Jackson racked up 97 yards on 10 carries. Hugney tossed a touchdown pass to Caleb Reedy as the Hornets signal-caller shook off an INT to go 16-of-24 for 144 yards. Defensively, Ben Burgan led with 11 tackles to further his streak of double figure tackle games to 12. Ahvyon Boothe and Matt Conroy forced and recovered fumbles. • AVERETT AT WASHINGTON AND LEE | BOX SCORE
Washington and Lee was the opponent and venue for Averett's first-ever ODAC contest, but much of the action went in W&L's favor in the Generals 31-0 victory. W&L ran for 338 yards and held the ball for an eye-opening 42:45 of clock time. Andrew Bland (69 yds.), Stephen Murrin (50), and Harry Crutcher (50) all ran for touchdowns. ODAC FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK | WEEK 5

FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jackson Deaver | Randolph-Macon | Jr. | Linebacker
Deaver, a junior from Fayetteville, N.C., was ever-present in Guilford's offensive backfield in helping the Randolph-Macon defense pitch a second-half shutout in a 48-19 victory over the Quakers in Ashland on Saturday. Deaver tied for team-high honors with eight tackles featuring five solo efforts. He made 5.5 of his stops behind the line of scrimmage, costly Guilford an eye-opening 27 yards of offense. Those tackles for loss include 2.0 quarterback sacks and helped Randolph-Macon's defense pitch a second-half shutout where the unit forced the Quakers into five negative yardage drives of six possessions. Deaver's sacks came on back-to-back plays in the fourth quarter, setting Guilford back 13 yards and forcing a punt from its own end zone. Deaver's first two tackles of the game were his only two stops that did not cost GC yardage. For the season, Deaver has made 18 total tackles with 12 solo stops. He is second in the ODAC in tackles for loss (6.5) and lost yards from those TFLs (29). He is tied for third with 3.0 sacks.
FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Andrew Ihle | Randolph-Macon | Sr. | Quarterback
Ihle, a senior from Apex, N.C., put together a career-day in Randolph-Macon's 48-19 victory over Guilford on Saturday afternoon. Ihle ran for career-highs of 83 yards and five touchdowns on 13 carries for a 6.4 yards per rush average. The five rushing scores are one off the R-MC school-record. This is the second time in as many reports that a player from an ODAC school has registered five touchdowns in a game, with Ihle joining Hampden-Sydney running back Melik Frost's efforts from week three. Ihle is now tied for second in ODAC history for most rushing touchdowns in one game, while his five overall touchdowns and 30 points are tied for second and fourth, respectively. All three entries feature multiple honorees. Ihle, who lined up as Randolph-Macon's red zone running quarterback against the Quakers, ran in from five yards to make it 13-13 with 13:55 on the second quarter clock for his first touchdown. He then plunged in from two yards out at the 10:18 mark of the same frame for a 20-13 advantage. Ihle scored the first of his three second-half touchdowns on the Yellow Jackets' first drive with a nine-yard run out of the shotgun, dragging one would-be tackler to the goalline. He added a three-yard touchdown dive over the left side with 1:47 to go in the third quarter, and then capped the game's scoring with a 13-yard burst up the middle off an option play on fourth-and-three with 4:10 left in regulation. For the season, Ihle has run for 209 yards on 36 carries (5.8/rush). His eight rushing touchdowns are the most via the ground in the ODAC and are tied with H-SC's Frost for most overall scores in the league. Both have notched 48 points.
