  • SU's Jones, W&L's Amil Lead All-ODAC Field Hockey Awards

    The University of Lynchburg and Washington and Lee University each earned seven all-conference accolades and combined for three special individual honors to highlight the 2020-21 All-ODAC Field Hockey Awards. Shenandoah University midfielder Kesley Jones received ODAC Offensive Player of the Year laurels, while fellow SU-Hornet Farren Winter collected ODAC Rookie of the Year honors. Generals goalkeeper Sara Amil garnered ODAC Defensive Player of the Year plaudits. Lynchburg mentor Enza Steele earned ODAC Coach of the Year recognition, while LYN-Hornets goalkeeper Laurel Nicks was tabbed the ODAC/Virginia Farm Burau Insurance Scholar-Athlete by the league's athletic communications personnel for a second straight season.

    The University of Lynchburg earned its third straight and 21st overall ODAC field hockey title on Sunday afternoon via a 3-1 result over Washington and Lee University at Shellenberger in Lynchburg.

  • ODAC Field Hockey Tournament | Six Teams Ready for First Spring Tourney

    The seasons may not quite be consecutive, but the University of Lynchburg stands atop the field for a third straight campaign as the conference's teams prepare to open the first ODAC Spring Field Hockey Tournament this week. Lynchburg's 7-0 league mark propelled them to the league's #1 rankings, while Washington and Lee University's 7-1 record earned the Generals the #2 seed. Both LYN and W&L received byes thru the quarterfinal round of competition. Those two games will be hosted by third-seeded Roanoke College and #4 Shenandoah University. Bridgewater College, thanks to its win over Virginia Wesleyan University on Sunday afternoon, will play as the fifth seed and travel to SU for its quarterfinal matchup.

    The start of the ODAC field hockey season is upon us, and for the first time league history, the sport enjoys a spring setting. The conference's programs are set to compete in a full round-robin format, with Sweet Briar College returning to the league schedule for the 2021 spring campaign.

    In this edition of ODAC Chat, we dive into field hockey and talk with Shenandoah University head coach Ashley Smeltzer-Kraft. Ashley is the chair of the ODAC field hockey coaches and also serves as SU's senior woman administrator and co-advisor for the Hornets' SAAC. She talked about the success she's had with her program over her first seven seasons -- all at .500 or better including a program record 17 wins in 2019. She also touches on her SWA and SAAC roles at SU and gives us some insight into the strength of the ODAC field hockey ranks.
