NCAA Swimming Recap | Day 1

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Washington and Lee University kicked off competition in the 2022 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday. Generals swimmers competed in three events on the first day.

Franklin College and the Indiana Sports Corp are serving as hosts for this year's four-day event scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday, March 16-19. All competition will be competed at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus at the IUPUI Natatorium.

WHO DID WHAT IN WHICH EVENT

  • Women's 200-Yard Medley Relay Prelims -- W&L saw an extra relay team from their original set of qualifiers compete in the 200-yard medley relay; Caroline Baber, Turner Bobbitt, Sara Gaston, and Brynn Martinson finished 20th overall with a time of 146.09.
  • Women's 200-Yard IM Prelims -- Sophia Rollo and Caroline Baber competed in the 200-IM prelims. While Baber was disqualified during the event, Rollo finished 22nd with a time of 2:05.99.
  • Women's 50-Yard Freestyle Prelims -- Brynn Martinson added the 50-Freestyle to her championship docket; she finished 33rd in the prelims with a time of 0:23.70.

UP NEXT

  • On day two, Generals swimmers will compete in the 200-yard freestyle relay prelims plus an added event, the 400-yard medley relay prelims.

* Those that finish top-8 in the finals earn All-American honors. Those that finish 9-16 in the finals earn Honorable Mention All-American recognition. To qualify for a finals session, a swimmer must finish inside the top-16 (consolation final) or top-8 (championship final) in the prelims.
