  • LC's Maxwell, SU's Wessel Named Academic All-Americans by CoSIDA

    Two ODAC women's soccer standouts took home impressive dual-emphasis honors on Tuesday afternoon as Lynchburg College centerback Emily Maxwell and Shenandoah University back Alex Wessel were named Academic All-Americans by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Maxwell earned a spot on the second team, while Wessel was tabbed to the third team.

    Lynchburg College centerback Emily Maxwell added to a rather lengthy list of awards on Thursday night as she was tabbed a First Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA). This marks her third straight appointment to a soccer coaches organization All-American team, joining a first team nod in 2015 and second team selection last season.

    Virginia Wesleyan University saw its season come to a close on Sunday afternoon as the Marlins dropped a 3-0 decision to host The College of New Jersey in NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament second round action. The loss leaves VWU with a 15-7-1 overall record.

    Caitlin Mertens (Succasunna, N.J.) and Rachel Cooke (Charlottesville, Va.) provided the goals, junior goalkeeper Delia LoSapio (Raleigh, N.C.) made eight saves, and Lynchburg rolled to a 2-1 NCAA Division III Tournament second-round victory over previously undefeated and No. 7-ranked Christopher Newport.

    Lynchburg College junior Kennedy Jakubek scored the game's lone goal in the 96th minute for a 1-0 overtime victory over McDaniel College in the first round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday evening in Newport News, Va. LC moves on to face host Christopher Newport University at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday in the second round.

    Lynchburg College centerback Emily Maxwell received two special awards to headline the All-ODAC Women's Soccer awards. Maxwell was tabbed both the ODAC Player of the Year by the league's head coaches and the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete by the conference's sports information directors. Bridgewater College mentor Mike Van Horn picked up ODAC Coach of the Year laurels, while Virginia Wesleyan University forward Anna Pedicone earned ODAC Rookie of the Year recognition.

    Caitlin Mertens turned the scoreboard more than 99 minutes from the first whistle with the game's only goal in overtime to send second-seeded Lynchburg College past fourth-seeded Bridgewater College, 1-0, in the ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament championship game.

Virginia Wesleyan University controlled its own destiny at the top of the eight-team setup, winning its final game to lockup top billing in the upcoming ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament.

  • Olsen Earns 400th Career Win in LC Women's Soccer Opener

    Lynchburg College women's soccer head coach Dr. Todd Olsen became just the 15th women's soccer coach at all levels of NCAA play to earn his 400th career victory on Friday evening. The Hornets opened the season with a 2-0 victory over SUNY-Brockport, making Olsen the ninth Division III coach to reach the 400-win plateau.
  • Washington and Lee, Lynchburg Tied Atop ODAC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll

    Two squads stand atop the 2017 ODAC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll as both Washington and Lee University and Lynchburg College earned 138 points following an annual vote of the league's head coaches. The Generals have a slight edge in the survey after receiving seven first place votes, while the Hornets garnered the remaining six. Virginia Wesleyan University sits third with 120 markers, while Bridgewater College and Shenandoah University each cleared the century mark with 105 and 103 tallies in fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
