2021-22 Women's Tennis Players of the Week

  • Taylor Garcia, Washington and Lee, Sr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles

    Garcia, a senior from Mandeville, La., went 6-0 combined between top-flight singles and doubles play to lead Washington and Lee to a trio of ODAC team victories. Garcia partnered with Margaret Carlton in doubles play in a 6-0 victory over Lynchburg. The pair defeated Christina Harris and Lauren Pascadlo, 8-5, with Garcia following with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Harris in singles play. Garcia then did not drop a set the rest of the week. She and Carlton posted an 8-0 victory over Hannah Pardue and Jolie Nhouyvanisvong in doubles play against Guilford. Garcia then topped Pardue, 6-0, 6-0, in their singles tilt towards a 9-0 team win. The Generals defeated Hollins, 9-0, as well. This time Garcia paired with Gabi Moss for an 8-0 doubles win over Krishna Agrawal and Amelia Shaw. She then down Agrawal, 6-0, 6-0, in singles play. Garcia is now 10-5 in all singles matches this season including 8-4 at #1 and 3-0 in the ODAC. She is 9-6 in doubles action with several partners.
  • Christina Harris, Lynchburg, Gr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles

    Harris, a graduate student from Falls Church, Va., continues to add to her legacy at Lynchburg as the former ODAC Player of the Year went a combined 4-0 between top flight singles and double action in leading Lynchburg to a pair of ODAC victories. In the process, Harris became the first player in Hornets history to registered 100 career singles wins. In an 8-1 triumph at Virginia Wesleyan, Harrison won 6-1, 1-6, 6-0 over Alexa Brewster at #1 singles and joined Lauren Pascadlo for an 8-3 win over Brewster and Christine Zalameda at #1 doubles. The pair won against at #1 doubles in a 9-0 team victory at Randolph-Macon. Harris and Pascadlo topped Grace Holderman and Adele Huffman at #1 doubles. Harris then posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Holderman at #1 singles. Harris is 15-4 in all singles matches this season including 12-2 at the top flight and 5-1 in ODAC play. She is 13-6 in all doubles matches.
  • Natalia Garcia Molina, Shenandoah, Gr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles

    Garcia Molina, a graduate student from Castellón de la Plana, Spain, earns her second weekly award after helping Shenandoah continue its best season since joining the ODAC in 2012 with a trio of conference victories last week. Garcia Molina went 3-0 at #1 singles and joined Jahveesha Combs for a 3-0 mark at #1 doubles as the Hornets improved to 9-3 overall team dual matches and 7-1 in league play.  In a 9-0 team win over Roanoke, Garcia Molina and Combs won 8-2 over Lucy Collins and Halle Fernstrum. Garcia Molina then topped Collins, 6-1, 6-0, in singles play. She did not drop a set in her singles win over Malena Hoover in the Hornets 5-4 nail-biting victory at Bridgewater. She and Combs defeated Hoover and Rachel Crawford, 8-4, in doubles action. Shenandoah topped Randolph, 9-0, in its final match of the week. Garcia Molina and Combs downed Bailey Livingston and Valentina Santos, 8-1, in doubles play. Garcia Molina then earned her second straight sets win of the week, besting Santos 6-0, 6-0. For the season, Garcia Molina is 17-1 in all singles matches including 11-0 in dual action, all from the #1 position. She is 8-0 in league contests. She and Combs are 18-2 in all doubles matches with a 12-0 mark in top flight matchups. They are 8-0 in the ODAC.
  • Ruth de Souza, Sweet Briar, Jr., #1 Singles, #1-2 Doubles

    de Souza, a junior from Marilla, Brazil, earns her first ODAC weekly award of the season after contributing to historic milestones for Sweet Briar's program. de Souza helped the Vixens, ranked 12th in the Atlantic South Region, earn four victories last week, pushing SBC's season total to program-best 17 victories in head-to-head team matchups. de Souza became just the second player in Vixens history to record 100 career wins as she went 4-0 over two matches on the weekend. She and Allison Wandling, the 14th ranked doubles pairing in the region, teamed up for an 8-0 win at #1 doubles over Guilford duo Madyson Schreiber and Hannah Pardue. de Souza then posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Schreiber at #1 singles to help SBC to a 9-0 team triumph. The Vixens again posted a 9-0 win later that day, this time against William Peace. de Souza partnered Avery Jones at #2 doubles with the pair posting an 8-0 win over Mya Sampson and Abbie Papale. de Souza then won 6-0, 6-0 over Hayley McNair at #1 singles.
  • Ryan Roeber, Bridgewater, So., #5 Singles, #3 Doubles

    Roeber, a sophomore from Warrenton, Va., helped the Eagles to a 1-1 week against ODAC foes by picking up four team points in combined singles and doubles play. Roeber and partner Emily Daigneault won 8-1 at #3 doubles against Virginia Wesleyan's Kristina Abrams and Amanda Stegemann in a narrow 5-4 team loss to the Marlins. Roeber topped Stegemann, 6-2, 6-4, at #5 singles to account of two of BC's four points. She then helped the Eagles to a 7-2 victory over Roanoke. She and Daigneault defeated Sophie Bartholomaus and Dana Meyer, 8-3, at #3 doubles. Roeber tacked on a second point with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Bartholomaus at #5 singles.
  • Elizabeth Teefey, Lynchburg, Jr., #2-3 Singles, #1-2 Doubles

    Teefey, a junior from Amelia, Va., helped Lynchburg improve to 11-1 on the season with a pair of non-conference team victories last week. Teefey joined Lauren Pascadlo on an 8-1 win over Hannah Eastridge and Katlyn Massie at #1 doubles in the Hornets 9-0 whitewashing of Mary Baldwin. Teefey won 6-0, 6-0 at #2 singles over Gretchen Lutz. Then in a marathon against Methodist University, Teefey was responsible for two points including the deciding tally in a 5-4 triumph over the Monarchs. Teefey and her sister Grace paired up for an 8-7 (5) win over Megan Kidd and Valeria Matute at #2 doubles. In singles play, Teefey dropped the first set, 4-6, to Jill Lawrence, but rebounded to win the next two sets, 7-6 and 6-0, to secure the deciding point. Teefey is now 12-0 in dual match singles play and picked up her ninth and 10th victories in doubles action.

    Harris, a graduate student from Falls Church, Va., added to her star-studded career by going 8-0 between top flight singles and doubles matches in leading Lynchburg to four team victories and the program's first 9-0 start to a season. Harris, who is nearing 100 career singles victories, partnered twice with Alissa Anderson and Lauren Pascadlo each in doubles play. Harris and Anderson won 8-1 over Ricki Budewitz and Ashley Samuta as the Hornets kicked off play in the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, S.C., with a 6-3 team win over Concordia Wisconsin. Harris then won 6-2, 6-2 in singles play over Budewitz. Lynchburg again posted a 6-3 win over Millikin. Harris and Pascadlo bested Emily Markus and Paige Will, 8-3, in doubles action with Harris topping Nikol Obradovic, 6-1, 6-2, in their singles matchup. Harris took down Grace Krueger, 6-1, 6-1, in the Hornets 6-3 win over Carroll (Wis.). She and Pascadlo earned an 8-5 win over Krueger and Ashley LaBelle in doubles play. Lynchburg capped its stay on the beach with an 8-1 win over Greenville. Harris and Anderson won 8-1 over Mireai Birosta and Addison Brannon. Harris earned a 6-1, 6-1, decision over Birosta, ending her singles matches that featured 48 out of 58 games won. Her career singles victory total stands at 95.
  • Ana Patino, Sweet Briar, Fy., #2 Singles, #2/3 Doubles

    Patino, a first-year from Medellín, Colombia, went 5-0 between singles and doubles play to help Sweet Briar pick up a trio of 9-0 victories against teams that were a combined 18-4. The Vixens opened play in Hilton Head, S.C., with a 9-0 victory over Messiah College. Patino partnered with Lily Hurt for an 8-1 win at #3 doubles over Nicole Lee and Hannah Murray. In a team win over Gettysburg, Patino paired with Kate Kotany for an 8-0 victory at #2 doubles over Sarah Guistwite and Julia Gowland. Patino then posted a 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) win over Guistwite at #2 singles. Patino and Kotany remained unbeaten as a doubles pair in helping SBC defeated Division II foe Albany State. The pair won 8-2 over Asia Raulerson and Carla Sorroche at #2 doubles, with Patino following up with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #2 singles over Doylisha Copeland.

    Garcia Molina, a graduate student from Castellón de la Plana, Spain, picks up her first ODAC weekly award after leading Shenandoah to a 1-1 week against ODAC opponents. Garcia Molina accounted for two points in SU's narrow 5-4 team setback to Lynchburg. She topped all-time Lynchburg wins leader and former ODAC Player of the Year Christina Harris, 6-4, 6-3 at #1 singles. She joined Jahveesha Combs for an 8-4 win over Harris and Lauren Pascadlo in top-flight doubles play. Garcia Molina again accounted for two points for SU in a 5-0 team win over Guilford. She and Combs topped Madyson Schreiber and Hannah Pardue, 8-0, at #1 doubles. Garcia Molina added a 6-0, 6-1 win over Schreiber at #1 singles.

    Garcia, a senior from Mandeville, La., led Washington and Lee to a nationally-rated victory with a pair of points in an 8-1 victory over Johns Hopkins University. Garcia, ranked #18 in the Atlantic South Region rankings by the ITA, earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at #1 singles over regionally 13th-ranked Anjali Devireddy. Prior to that singles contest, Garcia joined teammate Izzy Koziol for an 8-4 win at #1 doubles over Devireddy and Emily Javedan. Devireddy and her previous partner from the fall, Evenlyn Chang, were slotted seventh in the region.
  • Avery Smith, Randolph-Macon, Sr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles

    Smith, a senior from Walpole, Mass., helped Randolph-Macon lift the lid on a the spring season with a pair of wins in the Yellow Jackets 6-3 team triumph over Meredith College. Smith paired with Grace Holderman to earn an 8-2 victory over Ellie Osborne and Aly Henneberry at #1 singles. Smith then earned a second point in top-flight singles play as she bested Henneberry, 6-4, 6-4, to complete R-MC's come-from-behind victory.
