ODAC Football Play of the Week Nominees - Week 1

  • ODAC Football Play of the Week: Week 1 - Bridgewater

Early in the fourth quarter with Bridgewater leading Gettysburg, 24-0, linebacker Davey Hardesty tacked on seven more points when he tipped and intercepted a Bullets' pass and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown. BC's defense held Gettysburg scoreless until the 7:28 mark in its 38-22 victory.
  • ODAC Football Play of the Week: Week 1 - Emory & Henry

After Ferrum had tied the score, 31-all, with 1:17 to play, Kendrick Kube returned the advantage to Emory & Henry on the ensuing kickoff. Starting from his own 3-yard line, he cut outside from the left hash before using a spin move to elude the final two defenders on the way to a 97-yard return for a touchdown and a 38-31 Wasps' lead.
  • ODAC Football Play of the Week: Week 1 - Guilford

Guilford defensive lineman Gibson Ziah made a living in Greensboro's offensive backfield during the Quakers' 69-0 drubbing of The Pride in the Gate City Soup Bowl. He had three sacks on the day, including this strip-sack and fumble recovery. The turnover led to a Guilford touchdown two plays later and a 21-0 lead late in the first quarter.
  • ODAC Football Play of the Week: Week 1 - Hampden-Sydney

It didn't take long for Hampden-Sydney to open its account in 2016, nor was the wait extensive for Matt DeMasi. The Tigers' freshman returner made the most of his first collegiate play, taking back the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown at Averett. DeMasi racked up 163 all-purpose yards in his debut outing.
  • ODAC Football Play of the Week: Week 1 - Randolph-Macon

Randolph-Macon running back Tre Frederick rushed for 177 yards in the Yellow Jackets 51-0 shutout of Dickinson. His efforts included this 95-yard touchdown run where he emerged from behind the right side of R-MC's line and out-ran the DC defense to the goal line. Frederick finished the day with 223 all-purpose yards, while Randolph-Macon posted 500 yards of total offense.
  • ODAC Football Play of the Week: Week 1 - Washington and Lee

In a matchup of nationally-ranked programs, Washington and Lee's rushing attack showed its explosiveness early in the second quarter. Connor Chess took a last-second high-arcing pitch from Charlie Nelson and used speed to get around the edge to beat the Johns Hopkins defense to the pylon for a 26-yard touchdown run.
