ODAC Football Report | Week 7

FOREST, Va. --- Two league games and a pair of non-conference contests dotted week seven of ODAC football. Randolph-Macon improved to 3-1 in conference play, just a half-game back of idle Washington and Lee after shutting out Guilford on the road. Ferrum kicked a field goal with 0:03 on the clock to earn a comeback victory over Shenandoah. Bridgewater snapped a four-game skid with a non-conference win over Apprentice School, while former ODAC member Emory & Henry defeated Hampden-Sydney in the remaining contest on the weekend.

This week's ODAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week are both from Ferrum -- linebacker Billy Higgins and receiver Tmahdae Penn.

THE GAMES | WEEK 7

BRIDGEWATER def. APPRENTICE, 27-7 | Box Score
Bridgewater's offense was on the field for less than 28 minutes against Apprentice School, but the Eagles got contributions from all three phases of the game on the way to a 27-7 win in Bridgewater on Saturday. Malcolm Anderson and Jaylen Wood combined to throw for 121 yards with Anderson connecting with Chad Jones on a 36-yard touchdown play. Jones finished with five catches for 94 yards. Ronald Robinson, Jr., scored his second rushing touchdown of the season. Kicker Jackson Hendren registered nine points including a pair of short field goals. Freddie Watkins picked up a loose ball following a blocked punt by Jamel Johnson and returned it 15 yards for a touchdown. Shawn Harris led the defense with 11 tackles. Tucker Harris and Brett Tharp registered quarterback sacks. Tucker Harris also forced a fumble that Alexander Cromwell recovered. Deion Richardson also picked up a loose ball.

FERRUM def. SHENANDOAH, 24-23 | Box Score
Shenandoah kicker Patrick Ritchie made a 24-yard field with 1:47 to play for a 23-21 lead, but Ferrum kicker Seth Deaton booted a 35-yarder through the uprights to cap to a 10-play 62-yard drive with 0:03 for a 24-23 Panthers comeback victory on homecoming in Ferrum on Saturday. FC needed just 1:44 to march down the field for the game-winning field goal. FC quarterback Titus Jones posted 202 yards and two touchdowns passing to go with a team-best 53 yards and another score rushing. Receiver Tmahdae Penn was influential with three catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns covering 71 and 48 yards. The two receiving TDs give him nine for the season, setting a new single-season school-record. Defensively, Billy Higgins made 10 stops (8 solo) with two passes broken up including the final throw of the game. Drew Hill made 12 stops overall. Kevin Williams and Damien Dula registered interceptions with both leading to Ferrum touchdowns. EMORY & HENRY def. HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, 37-13 | Box Score
Hampden-Sydney trailed 20-0 early on but pulled to within 10 points following a pair of Palmer Smith third quarter field goals, but the Tigers would get no closer in a 37-13 setback at Emory & Henry. Tmahdae Penn | Ferrum | So. | Receiver
Penn, a sophomore from Martinsville, Va., broke the Ferrum single-season record for receiving touchdowns with two of the biggest plays of the game on Saturday as Ferrum completed a 24-23 comeback victory during homecoming festivities in Ferrum. Penn caught three passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns, each of which went for better than 45 yards. His first touchdown catch-and-run came just before halftime as he put the Panthers on the board with a 71-yard dash to paydirt. He caught a 19 pass over the middle from Titus Jones, bounced off one would-be tackler, and sprinted for the end zone and turning away from four defenders. Penn's second TD reception put Ferrum ahead, 21-20, with 6:03 to play. After an interception returned possession to FC, Penn ran on to a deep post-pass by Jones at the 10-yard line as he beat his primary defender and got beyond the safety for a 48-yard touchdown catch. Those two touchdowns gave him nine for the season, setting a new Panthers' single-season record. The nine TD receptions are three more than any other ODAC receiver this year. Penn is currently #1 in yards per reception (23.1), second in receiving yards (600) and receiving yards per game (100.0), and fourth in receptions (26).
