Tanner Bernard, Hampden-Sydney, Sr., Quarterback

Bernard, a senior from Lynchburg, Va., registered his first career 400-yard passing game in leading Hampden-Sydney to a 35-16 road win at Ferrum on Saturday. Bernard, a two-time All-ODAC selection, shook off two miscues to complete 75-percent of his passes at 33-of-44 for a career-best 440 yards and four touchdown passes. While he connected with seven different receivers against the Panthers, Bernard's connect with Mason Cunningham was prolific. The pair linked up 13 times for 163 yards and three touchdowns. That included the game's second score via a crossing route over the middle from 18 yards away for a 14-0 lead. They made it 20-0 early in the second quarter with a comeback quick hitch that turned into a 36-yard catch-and-run. Their final scoring connection came midway through the third quarter and covered 42 yards with Bernard finding Cunningham down the seam. Bernard's remaining TD throw was the first score of the game as he hit Jamahdia Whitby along the left sideline for a 72-yard catch-and-sprint to paydirt. Bernard completed five of his first six passes, two of which went for scores. At one point, he completed eight straight passes to six different receivers including a converted two-point attempt. For the season, Bernard leads the ODAC in passing yards (1,435), yards per game (358.8), touchdowns (12), and completions (107). He is second in attempts (169) and completion percentage (63.3%).
