2010 Field Hockey Players of the Week

  • KELLY TRAN, Washington and Lee, Senior, Attack
    November 01, 2010
    Tran, a senior from Simsbury, Conn., scored two goals and added an assist in two games last week. Both goals came in a 4-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC quarterfinal round. She also assisted on the game-winning goal in overtime in a 2-1 win over Bridgewater on Wednesday. Tran is currently tied for third in the ODAC in points (34) and fifth in goals scored (14).
  • MARY McCARTHY, Randolph-Macon, Senior, Attack

    McCarthy, a senior from Rixeyville, Va., earns her second weekly award of the season. McCarthy rattled in the cage four times in the Yellow Jackets 6-1 win over Roanoke on Tuesday. On Saturday, she scored the game tying goal in the 64th minute. Randolph-Macon went on to win in overtime 2-1. McCarthy leads the team and is tied for second in the ODAC with 15 goals. She joins teammate Lauren Seal with 32 points, tied for third in the conference.
  • JENNY WEIR, Lynchburg College, Senior, Attack

    Weir, a senior from Richmond, Va., picks up her second straight weekly honor and second overall of the 2010 season. Weir scored two goals in the Hornets' 4-0 win over Randolph-Macon in the only action of the week for Lynchburg. She currently leads in the ODAC with 36 points and 15 goals.
  • JENNY WEIR, Lynchburg College, Senior, Attack

    Weir, a senior from Richmond, Va., scored four goals and had three assists in two games on the week. She notched three goals and dished out two assists in Lynchburg's 8-0 win over Washington and Lee. Two of her goals came in a 13-second spurt in the first half, which was part of a three-goal burst over 1:21 in which LC pushed to a 5-0 after just over 13 minutes of play. She followed that up with one goal and another helper in a 4-1 over Shenandoah. Weir has scored 13 goals on the season, eclipsing her career-high of 12 in 2009.
  • BRIANNA JACQUES, Bridgewater College, Senior, Attack

    Jacques, a senior from Orange, Va., posted a strong week for the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team. Jacques netted a goal in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan before tallying a pair of second-half goals in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Frostburg State. Jacques’s three goals on the week propelled her into fourth place on the Bridgewater career points list with 84. Her 84 points is the highest points total for a Bridgewater player in the last decade.
  • LINDSAY LEONARD, Lynchburg College, Sophomore, Attack

    Leonard, a sophomore from Yorktown, Va., scored both goals last Wednesday against No. 1 ranked Messiah in the Hornets' 2-1 victory. She scored the tying goal with 3:13 left in regulation and the game-winner in overtime, sending the top-ranked Falcons to their. Later in the week, Leonard added one goal in the win over Frostburg State.

    McCarthy, a senior from Rixeyville, Va., notched 12 points to help lead the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 week that included a win over ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan. McCarthy notched two goals in a 6-1 win over the Marlins, and followed that up with a one-goal one-assist showing in a 5-2 over Frostburg State. She capped her week by scoring twice and assisting Mikalea Rumley on the game-winner in a 3-2 win over Shenandoah.
  • TIFFANY FRYE, Lynchburg College, Junior, Goalkeeper

    Frye, a junior from Williamsburg, Va., helped the Hornets record their third shutout of the season in a 3-0 win at Wesley (Del.). Frye stopped made nine saves in Lynchburg's first away game of year in which the Hornets were out-shot, 28-21, and out-cornered, 15-8.
  • KALAH HESS, Bridgewater College, Senior, Midfielder

    Hess, a senior from Lancaster, Pa., notched three goals in two games to lead the Bridgewater field hockey team to a 2-0 start in 2010. Hess tallied a goal in the season opening victory (3-2) at Hood before recording a pair of goals on Sunday in the home opener against Dickinson, a 2-1 win.
