  • ODAC Announces Berkley and Jopson Award Winners

    It is rare to have a "first" for a set of awards that have been bestowed since the early 1980's, but that is exactly what we have this season following the announcement of the Marjorie Berkley and Harry G. "Doc" Jopson Awards on Tuesday afternoon. Shenandoah University women's basketball forward Olivia Weinel and Eastern Mennonite University cross country and mid-distance track athlete Isaac Alderfer garnered the conference's highest honors from the ODAC Board of the Directors. Weinel is the first recipient of either honor from Shenandoah since the Winchester-based school joined the ODAC prior to the 2012-13 season. Alderfer is the sixth Royal to earn the Jopson Award and 12th overall high honor winner from EMU. He is the first Royals' student-athlete to claim either trophy since Tyler Denlinger earned the Jopson Award in 2017.
  • Coleman Wins 60m Dash Crown, Seven All-American Awards Highlight NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

    Bridgewater College speedster Adalia Coleman captured gold in the women's 60-meter dash on Saturday at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., highlighting the efforts of ODAC student-athletes that featured seven All-American awards following two days of competition at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships.
  • Baker's Dozen of ODAC Stars Qualify for NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

    Winston-Salem is the destination for a baker's dozen of the ODAC's best track & field stars as the NCAA announced the qualification fields for the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. JDL Fast Track will serve as hosts along with Visit Winston-Salem and the ODAC's own Guilford College for two days of competition on March 11-12.

    Fresh off a successful and exciting championship meet hosted at Roanoke College, the ODAC indoor track & field coaches have made their final choices to complete the 2021-22 All-ODAC Indoor Track & Field Awards. Virginia Wesleyan University jumpers Jaylyn Lane and Geni Roberts were selected as the ODAC Indoor Women's and Men's Field Athletes of the Meet, respectively. Bridgewater College sprinter Adalia Coleman earned ODAC Indoor Women's Track Athlete of the Meet laurels, while University of Lynchburg mid-distance runner Sam Llaneza collected ODAC Indoor Men's Track Athlete of the Meet recognition. Hornets mentor Jim Sprecher was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year in both sports. Washington and Lee University is home to both the ODAC Women's and Men's Rookies of the Year in sprinter Katelyn Gamble and distance runner Josh Fingerhut.
  • Lynchburg Sweeps ODAC Indoor Track & Field Titles

    The first ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships since 2020 featured nine broken men's records and a sweep of the team titles as the University of Lynchburg capped two days in Roanoke College's Kerr-Cregger Fieldhouse by lifting both league trophies. The Hornets collected 194.0 points in the women's team standings to out-pace second place Washington and Lee University (119.50) and third place Roanoke (104.50). Lynchburg's men earned 170.0 points to rank ahead of second place W&L (95.0) and third place Bridgewater College (77.0). Lynchburg, which has won an ODAC-best 29 men's indoor titles, enjoys its first men's championship since donning 17 consecutive crowns from 1998 through 2014. Lynchburg's women's program increases its league record mark to 12 championships with its third straight piece of conference hardware.
  • ODAC Athletes Set for Return of the Indoor Track & Field Championships

    It's been two years for ODAC indoor track & field fans to see their favorites athletes in action at a conference championship, but the wait is over with the return of the ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend, February 26-27, in Salem, Va. ODAC competitors return to the Kerr-Cregger Fieldhouse for two days of competition. The schedule is a bit altered from past championships with this year's affair starting earlier on Saturday. Field events begin at 12:00 p.m. ET with the first running event slated for 3:30 p.m. ET. Action continues on Sunday with field events at 11:00 a.m. ET and track events at 2:30 p.m. ET.

    More records fell in the final tune-up prior to the ODAC Championships this coming weekend at Roanoke's Kerr-Cregger Field House. This season's performances have many excited not only for the upcoming championships, but also for the soon-to-begin outdoor campaign.     Five different ODAC records were reset following an unprecedented set of events during week 24 of the season. All occurred on the men's side in both field and track events, but that didn't mean athletes in the women's ranks were left out of the party. The best NCAA Division III rankings came from the conference's women's competitors, including a pair of nationally top-10 rated sprints.     Colby DelBene of Forest, Virginia, has been named Head Cross Country Coach/Assistant Director of Track & Field at Virginia Wesleyan University, according to Cameia Alexander, VWU Director of Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track and Field.

    After getting a quick look at what is in store for ODAC indoor track & field in December, some of the conference's teams and athletes returned to action this past weekend with Shenandoah hosting the first meet of the 2022 campaign. This will mark the only time these student-athletes will feature before the calendar turns to 2022, but that did not keep competitors from tying or breaking conference, school, and personal records.     With the start of the 2021-22 academic and athletic campaigns quickly approaching, ODAC members and their student-athletes continue to haul in major postseason honors from the 2020-21 season. Conference student-athlete distinction and influence extends well beyond their athletic arenas with several taking home Academic All-America recognition from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
