  • Hull Named NFCA Player of the Year for Second Time

    Two down, two to go. That could be a theme for Virginia Wesleyan University softball and the class of 2020, especially for sophomore Hanna Hull as the Marlins lefty was named the Division III Player of the Year for the second straight season by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

    The NCAA Division III softball walnut and bronze prize resides in The Commonwealth for another year as reigning national champion Virginia Wesleyan University claimed its second straight title with a 3-1 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University in game three of the best-of-three championship series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
  • Marlins Split with Illinois Wesleyan Setting Up Winner-Take-All Championship

    The No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University softball team split the first two games of the NCAA Division III Championship Title Series with Illinois Wesleyan University Monday afternoon at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium. The squad came out victorious in game one, winning 6-1, before being edged, 5-4, in extra innings in game two. With the results, the Marlins are now 54-3 on the season and will square off against Illinois Wesleyan in a winner take all game beginning at 11 a.m. (12 p.m. EST) on Tuesday.

    Hanna Hull fanned 13 batters on the way to her 37th victory while Cassetty Howerin and Jessica Lindsay both homered in Virginia Wesleyan University's 3-0 whitewashing of Luther College to advance in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament championship series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
  • Hull's No-Hitter Leads Virginia Wesleyan Over Ithaca in NCAA Series Opener

    Virginia Wesleyan sophomore All-American Hanna Hull opened play in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament national championship series with a no-hitter powered by 12 strikeouts in a 6-0 shutout of Ithaca College.
  • Marlins Softball Headed Back to Oklahoma City for NCAA Championship Finals

    Virginia Wesleyan University softball is headed back to Oklahoma City after topping Berry College, 7-6 in 8 innings, in the second game of the 2018 NCAA Division III Softball Championship Super Regionals in Virginia Beach, Va. The Marlins have the opportunity to defend their 2017 national title at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex on May 24-29. Check the NCAA website for further details.   • Hull Nearly Perfect as Marlins Open Super Regionals with Win Over Berry

    The No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University softball team shut out Berry College, 4-0, in the first game of the NCAA Division III Super Regional Friday afternoon at Marlin Park. With the loss, the Marlins improve to 49-2 on the year and clip Berry's win streak at 15.
  • Randolph-Macon Bows Out of NCAA Softball Tournament to Rowan
    May 14, 2018
    Randolph-Macon softball bowed out of the NCAA Tournament Monday afternoon after Rowan scored two wins against the Yellow Jackets, winning 7-1 and 2-1. Earlier in the day, Rowan forced a second game in the championship round of the Glassboro Regional, winning the first game 7-1. The game had been scoreless heading into the bottom of the fourth inning when it was suspended Sunday afternoon due to rain and lightning.
  • Marlins Take Down CNU to Reach NCAA Super Regionals

    The No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University softball team took down Christopher Newport University, 7-2, in the title game of the NCAA Division III Regional Round held in Newport News, Va. on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Marlins move to 48-2 on the season and will now square off against Berry College in the NCAA DIII Super Regional Round.
  • Jackets Down PSU-Berks to Reach Regional Championship

    Randolph-Macon softball moved into the regional championship for the third time in four years with a 3-0 win over Penn State Berks Saturday afternoon in Glassboro, New Jersey on the campus of Rowan University. It will be the first time R-MC is going into the final day with a 2-0 record and is one win away from the Glassboro Regional Title.

    A Kiersten Richardson walk off single in the eighth inning sealed up a trip to the NCAA Regional Round Championship Saturday afternoon as the Virginia Wesleyan University softball team defeated Christopher Newport University, 7-6, in Newport News, Va. With the win the Marlins move to 47-2 on the season.

    Lynchburg College's softball season came to an end Saturday afternoon at the Atlanta Regional of the NCAA Division III tournament by way of a 4-2 loss to host Emory University.

    The No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University softball team defeated Gettysburg College, 9-2, in the first game of the NCAA Regional Round Friday afternoon in Newport News, Va. With the win the Marlins move to 46-2 on the year and will now square off against Christopher Newport University in the second game of the NCAA Regional Round. That game will once again take place on the campus of CNU and first pitch will be thrown at 1 p.m.
  • Whittemore Drives in Winning Run for R-MC's NCAA Softball Victory

    Junior Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va. / Patrick Henry) batted in the lone score of the game in the sixth inning of the #1 seeded Yellow Jackets' 1-0 win in the first round of the Glassboro Regional in the NCAA Tournament on the campus of Rowan University. Freshman starting pitcher Madie Rhoads (Portsmouth, Va. / Nansemond River) struck out ten while not allowing a walk or a run and just four hits, securing her 13th win of the season.
  • Three Teams to Carry ODAC Flag into NCAA Softball Tournament

    For the second straight year, three teams from ODAC member schools will play in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament, as announced on www.ncaa.com on Monday afternoon. Reigning national champion Virginia Wesleyan University will be joined by both Randolph-Macon College and Lynchburg College on the national stage.
  • VWU's Glaubke, Hull, Elliott Lead All-ODAC Softball Awards

    Nationally top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan University placed a league-high eight players on an all-conference team and earned three major individual laurels as part of the annual All-ODAC Softball Awards selection process. VWU outfielder Madison Glaubke was tabbed the ODAC Player of the Year, while lefty Hanna Hull and head coach Brandon Elliott repeated as ODAC Pitcher of the Year and ODAC Coach of the Year, respectively. Randolph-Macon College pitcher Madie Rhoads received ODAC Rookie of the Year distinction, while Emory & Henry College outfielder Erin Anderson earned ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete accolades.
  • Virginia Wesleyan Hoists 11th ODAC Softball Trophy

    On Friday, it looked like the nation's top-ranked team might be headed for an early exit from the 2018 ODAC Softball Tournament field. Virginia Wesleyan University certainly did not buy into that predicted outcome as the Marlins pulled off six straight victories in elimination games including two triumphs on Sunday afternoon over Emory & Henry College to lift the program's 11th overall and third straight ODAC softball trophy.

    The spotlight has shown bright on ODAC softball for several years but especially the past calendar year with Virginia Wesleyan University (39-1, 17-1 ODAC) capturing the 2017 NCAA Division III title. The Marlins have maintained their national top billing -- along with three others receiving national recognition throughout the season -- and occupy the #1 position in the upcoming ODAC Softball Tournament as the nation's top-ranked team for a second straight season.

    Two-time defending conference champion Virginia Wesleyan University opens the season as the coaches favorite to add to its league-record 10 overall crowns as the Marlins headline the 2018 ODAC Softball Preseason Poll. VWU collected a perfect 81 points and nine first place votes to lead the 10-team survey.
