2012 Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week

  • Lesley Buckingham, Lynchburg, Senior, Attack
    April 23, 2012
    Buckingham, a senior from Herndon, Va., put a cap to her regular season by capturing two of the biggest awards in Lynchburg women's lacrosse history. Buckingham helped lead the Hornets to a pair of wins over Randolph and Sweet Briar by scoring eight goals with six assists. Those totals helped her become the all-time leader at Lynchburg in pionts with 265 and goals with 192, supplanting 1991 LC grad Dana Hansen in both categories. Buckingham also has 73 assists in her career. For the week, Buckingham also collected 11 draw controls and four ground balls while causing three turnovers.
  • Katie Freeman, Bridgewater, Sophomore, Attack

    Freeman, a sophomore from Fairfax, Va., turned in a stellar week on the lacrosse pitch, helping to lead the Eagles to a 2-0 week. In Wednesday’s matchup at Sweet Briar, the sophomore stuck a pair of shots in the back of the net and registered an assist to help lead the Eagles to a 15-12 victory over the Vixens. On Saturday afternoon, Freeman posted a co-game high five goals and dished out a helper to lead the Eagles to a 13-12 double overtime win over the Marlins. The sophomore registered the game-winner in Saturday’s win.
  • Darragh Evarts, Roanoke, Freshman, Midfielder

    Evarts, a freshman from Golden's Bridge, N.Y., put together possibly the finest week of her rookie campaign with 13 points on 11 goals and two assists during Roanoke's 2-0 week. In a 20-6 win over Randolph, Evarts scored seven times on seven shots while also handing out an assist. She also racked up nine draw controls, six ground balls and caused three turnovers. In a 15-9 win over Sweet Briar, Evarts added four goals and one more helper while picking up one grounder and forcing a pair of turnovers. Evarts is third on Roanoke's squad with 48 points, and is sixth in the ODAC with 39 goals.
  • Alli Shearin, Washington and Lee, Senior, Attack
    April 02, 2012
    Shearin, a senior from Essex Fells, N.J., picks up her second weekly award of the season after helping Washington and Lee to a 3-0 week in ODAC play. Shearin collected 15 points on the week as the Generals moved to the top of the conference with a 5-0 league record. She picked up three goals and two assists in a win over Sweet Briar. Later that day, Shearin tallied four more times and helped out on one other in a triumph over Randolph. She capped her week with three goals and two assists in a win over Virginia Wesleyan. Shearin also grabbed a draw control and two ground balls last week. She leads W&L with 29 points on 22 goals and seven assists.
  • Lily Colley, Guilford, Sophomore, Attack
    March 27, 2012
    Colley, a sophomore from Wells, Maine, led Guilford in a 2-1 week with 14 points on 10 goals and four assists, all team highs. She also caused a team-high seven turnovers, picked up seven ground balls and collected four draws. Against Sweet Briar, Colley had four goals and three assists for seven points while causing four turnovers, all game highs. She helped Guilford to its first win over Va. Wesleyan since 1999 with four points on three goals and an assist. Colley also had two draws and forced three turnovers in the win. In the final game of the week, Colley scored three times against Christopher Newport, her seventh multi-goal game of the season.
  • Kathleen Wager, Roanoke, Junior, Midfielder
    March 19, 2012
    Wager, a junior from Lexington, Va., helped the Maroons to a pair of wins last week by scoring 10 goals and dishing out five assists in victories over Fitchburg St. and Wittenberg. She scored a career-best eight goals and handed out three assists in the 17-10 victory over Fitchburg St. on Tuesday. On Sunday vs. Wittenberg, she had two goals and two assists in the non-conference win. Wager leads Roanoke with 20 goals scored and is second with 27 points.
  • Kelly Egan, Randolph-Macon, Senior, Attack
    March 12, 2012
    Egan, a senior from Arnold, Md., helped R-MC to a 2-1 week with a 22-point performance. She scored 14 goals and handed out eight assists for the Yellow Jackets. In a loss to Marywood, she scored four goals and added an assist. In a win at Hood, she scored eight goals, had three assists, three groundballs and one caused turnover. Egan capped the week with two goals and four helpers in a win over Cedar Crest. She also grabbed two groundballs and caused three turnovers, giving her six pickups and five forced miscues on the week.

    Buckingham, a senior from Herndon, Va., notched six goals in the first game of the year against Berry College in a 17-7 victory. She also registered four draw controls, two ground balls and forced three turnovers in the contest. Buckingham also converted on her only free-position attempt of the day for one of her goals.
  • Alli Shearin, Washington and Lee, Senior, Attack
    February 27, 2012
    Shearin, a senior from Essex Fells, N.J., helped lead Washington and Lee to a pair of victories over Christopher Newport and Stevenson. In a 10-9 win over CNU, Shearin scored four goals including the game-winner. She also had one draw control and one ground ball. Against Stevenson, Shearin scored twice and assisted on another as the Generals went on to win 10-8. She also had a draw control in that game.
  • E'leyna Garcia, Guilford, Sophomore, Attack
    February 20, 2012
    Garcia, a sophomore from Plantationa, Fla., scored a team-high 12 points with 10 goals and two assists in the Quakers’ first two games, helping GC to a 1-1 start to the 2012 campaign. She notched four goals and an assist in Guilford’s 17-16 season-opening win over Berry. She added a team-high six goals and one assist in a loss to Sewanee. She had a hand in seven of Guilford’s 10 goals against the Tigers. Garcia moved into 19th place on Guilford’s career scoring chart with 76 points (55 goals, 21 assists).
