  • Marlins Hoist ODAC Women's Soccer Trophy for Second Time

    Virginia Wesleyan University are champions of ODAC women's soccer for a second time in program history as the Marlins earned a 1-0 victory over the University of Lynchburg on Sunday in the Trinder Center.
  • Adrianna Gunther, Virginia Wesleyan, So., Midfielder

    Gunther, a sophomore from Rosedale, Md., had three of the most important points of the season when Virginia Wesleyan needed them most to secure the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. Gunther supplied the game-winning assist in a 3-2 double-overtime ODAC win over Randolph-Macon. She found Breacain McClenahan in the 101st minute. Gunther then picked the perfect time to score her first goal of the season in a 1-1 draw through 110 minutes at Bridgewater. She found the ball in a mass of players off a set piece and deposited it past the Eagles keeper in the 78th minute to knot the game. The result gave the Marlins the point they needed to lock up the #1 seed in the ODAC postseason.
  • Sydney Davis, Bridgewater, Sr., Goalkeeper

    Davis, a senior from Arlington, Va., helped Bridgewater maintain a pair of clean sheets in two ODAC victories to keep the defending champion Eagles within one point of the top the conference standings with two games left to play in the regular season. Davis combined for 13 saves as BC recorded their eighth and ninth shutouts of the season. She made three stops in a 1-0 triumph at Randolph-Macon. She more than tripled her output on the weekend as Bridgewater defeated 25th-ranked Lynchburg, 1-0, on the road. She notched a season-high 10 saves for the second time this season (Salisbury on 9/18), tying for the second-most of her career. The two-time All-ODAC shot-stopper saw 27 shots peppered at her net with all but two of her saves coming after the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute. Her effort also included a pair of full-stretch saves in the 87th minute to preserve the victory. For the season, Davis leads the ODAC with a .907 save percentage. She is second with a 0.41 goals against average and tied for third with 39 saves.
  • Olivia Owens, Randolph-Macon, So., Forward

    Owens, a sophomore from Salisbury, Md., earns her second weekly award of the season after contributing to a pair of ODAC wins with five points, helping Randolph-Macon improve to 7-6-0 overall and 4-2-0 in league play. The two wins snapped a small two-game skid for the Yellow Jackets. In a 5-1 victory over Randolph College, Owens assisted Lora Bertram on the game-tying goal in the 15th minute and then put Randolph-Macon ahead for good a little over a minute later with a goal in the 16th minute. She was back on the scoresheet in a 2-0 victory at Eastern Mennonite. Her goal in the 62nd minute opened the game's scoring and prove enough to capture the Yellow Jackets second straight conference win. For the season, Owens is sixth in the ODAC with 15 points and six goals scored. She has also handed out three assists.
  • Elizabeth McGee, Shenandoah, So., Forward

    McGee, a sophomore from Moorestown, N.J., was on the scoresheet often for Shenandoah as she contributed to two of the Hornets three victories last week.* McGee had her hand in all three goals in SU's 3-0 shutout of Randolph-Macon. She scored the first goal in the 18th minute as she made a quick turn on a second ball off a corner to turn Abbie Marquette's pass into an assist. McGee then played playmaker for Saige Musser with her cross being directed into the net in the 20th minute. McGee added the final insurance goal in the 50th minute with a one-timer over the R-MC keeper's head off a dish from Chandler Gallant. She was on the scoreboard again at Randolph as her 60th minute tally made it 3-0 Hornets on the way to a 5-0 victory. She slipped a tight-angle shot past the keeper at the near-post after running on to a pass from Madison Hieber. For the season, McGee is fifth in the ODAC in goals scored (6) and sixth in points (13).
  • Alix Allen, Lynchburg, Sr., Centerback/Holding Midfielder

    Allen, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., contributed on both ends of the field in three Lynchburg wins that featured a pair of clean sheets. Allen got forward to score her first collegiate goal as part of a 9-0 ODAC win over Sweet Briar. She then anchored the center of the Hornets defensive unit on a second successive shutout in a 2-0 victory over the University of Mary Washington. Allen again found herself was strong defensively at Washington and Lee over the weekend, but this time she added the game-winning goal with her half-volley into the side netting off a feed from Amanda Wigboldy in the 96th minute clinching a 2-1 Hornets victory. Lynchburg currently stands atop the ODAC standings at 3-0-0 in league play and 8-1-0 overall.
  • Amanda Wigboldy, Lynchburg, Sr., Midfielder

    Wigboldy, a senior from Lynchburg, Va., contributed to a pair of Lynchburg victories last week to help the Hornets win for the fifth straight time -- all away from home -- and improve to 5-1 in the season. Wigboldy posted the game's first goal in a 2-0 win at Guilford. She hammered a right-footed free kick from 30 yards out off the hands of the Quakers' out-stretched keeper and into the net in the 30th minute. She again contributed to a game-winning tally in a 2-1 victory over nationally 24th-ranked Emory University. Wigboldy found Averey Wyscarver with a long pass in the 48th minute to give Lynchburg a 2-0 lead and the necessary margin to post the Hornets first victory over a ranked opponent since November 2018. For the season, Wigboldy has four points on one goal and two assists.
  • Olivia Owens, Randolph-Macon, So., Forward

    Owens, a sophomore from Salisbury, Md., put together a seven-point week as Randolph-Macon rattled off a pair of shutouts to even their record at 3-3. Owens lit up the scoreboard early and often in not only scoring her first collegiate goal but collecting her inaugural hat trick in a 6-0 victory at Meredith College. She turned Kylie Martino's pass into an assist in the sixth minute and then posted the Yellow Jackets' third and fourth goals in the 18th and 22nd minutes, respectively. The first of those two tallies was assisted by Olivia Adams and Maddie Bauman with the latter recorded as an unassisted effort by Owens. She helped R-MC earn a win for a second successive outing with an assist in a 2-0 victory over Greensboro. She provided the service to Lora Bertram for the game's second goal. For the season, Owens has registered eight points on three goals and two assists.
  • Morgan O'Neill, Roanoke, So., Forward

    O'Neill, a sophomore from Morristown, N.J., continued her stellar start to the 2021 fall campaign as she put her name on the scoresheet in both of Roanoke's non-conference victories last week. She has scored in four of the Maroons five contests, helping them to five wins in as many outings. O'Neill opened Roanoke's account in Saturday's 2-0 victory over Oneonta. She finished off a feed from Eliza Ryan in the 18th minute. She doubled her output in the Maroons' second outing as Roanoke scored six goals for the second time this season in a 6-0 shutout over Hartwick. O'Neill scored RC's third and fourth goals, one on either side of the intermission. She ran on to Erin Flamm's lofted ball over the Hawks defense, depositing it past the keeper in the 39th minute. Her second goal proved an unassisted effort with 52:02 showing on the game clock. For the season, O'Neill leads the ODAC in points (12) and goals scored (6). Roanoke has outscored its opponents 20-1 to open its schedule.
  • Chandler Gallant, Shenandoah, Fy., Midfielder

    Gallant, a first-year from Fairfax Station, Va., had about as good an introduction to collegiate women's soccer as possible with a pair of game-deciding goals to start off her career. Gallant finished off a stellar individual effort in the 16th minute against N.C. Wesleyan to highlight her first collegiate game with the contest's lone goal for a 1-0 victory. Following a 2-1 overtime setback to Salisbury University, Gallant helped the Hornets recover with a 1-0 victory over St. Mary's (Md.). She again posted the game's lone goal, this time sending a penalty past the keeper in the 46th minute.
