2015 Volleyball Players of the Week

  • Courtney Lowers, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Outside Hitter

    Lowers, a senior from Suffolk, Va., put together a 75-kill week as the Yellow Jackets went 3-1 to close out the regular season. She started off her week with 19 kills and 15 digs with three aces in a 3-1 at Washington and Lee. That victory wrapped up Randolph-Macon's unbeaten run thru its ODAC schedule. Lowers then earned a spot on the Emory Invitational All-Tournament Team after posting 56 kills with 29 digs and 11 blocks. That included an ODAC season-high matching 26 kills with 14 digs and four blocks in a 3-1 win over Millsaps. She added 17 kills with nine digs and five blocks in a 3-0 win over Clarkson. Lowers currently leads the ODAC in kills per set (4.18) and is third with 368 overall kills.
  • Katie Rossberg, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Middle Hitter

    Rossberg, a senior from Crozet, Va., hammered 70 kills at a 4.67 per-set clip to go with 44 digs, five blocks and three aces as Randolph-Macon took over sole ownership of the top spot in the ODAC and squared off against nationally ranked competition. Rossberg started off her week with 17 kills and seven digs in a 3-0 victory over previously ODAC unbeated Virginia Wesleyan. In Ohio at a tournament hosted by nationally 25th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan, Rossberg had 21 kills with 12 digs in a 3-1 setback to the host Bishops. She added 22 kills with 14 digs and two aces in a tight 3-2 loss to Hiram, and finished with 10 kills on a .360 hitting percentage and 11 digs for her third double-double of the week in a 3-0 loss to sixth-ranked Wittenberg. Rossberg is now 10th all-time at R-MC with 911 kills. She's ninth in the ODAC with 230 kills this season.
  • Tiffany Barrett, Virginia Wesleyan, Jr., Outside Hitter

    Barrett, a junior from Stafford, Va., picks up her second straight and third overall weekly award of the season after leading the Marlins to four ODAC wins last week. She hammered out 58 total kills for a 4.46 per set average, posting a .364 hitting percentage along the way. She collected 49 digs (at 3.77 per set) and eight aces to with two blocks. She opened her week with a 22-kill 20-dig performance in a 3-1 win over Randolph, adding three aces. She went for 13 kills and 16 digs with two more aces in a 3-0 victory over previously ODAC unbeated Washington and Lee. She added 16 more winners and a .556 attack percentage in a 3-0 win over Emory & Henry. Barrett currently leads the ODAC with 347 kills and is third at 3.81 per set. Her .276 hitting percentage is fourth in the league.

    Barrett, a junior from Stafford, Va., put together a banner week in helping Virginia Wesleyan to a 5-0 showing that included a win over Lynchburg and four victories at the Gallaudet Worthington Classic where Barrett was named the Most Valuable Player. She posted 70 kills, 56 digs, eight aces and seven blocks while hitting .305 over the course of the week. She had 16 kills, 10 digs and two blocks in a 3-1 win at Lynchburg, one of three double-doubles on the week. On the first day at Gallaudet, she hammered 14 kills with 16 digs in a 3-0 win over FDU-Florham, and then added 12 kills, seven digs and five aces in a 3-0 victory over the host Bison. Barrett started day two with eight kills, 11 digs and three blocks in a 3-0 win over Illinois Tech, and finish with 20 kills, 12 digs and two blocks in a 3-2 triumph over DeSales University. Barrett currently leads the ODAC with 289 overall kills and is third at 3.71 kills per set.
  • Kaitlyn Kelley, Shenandoah, So., Outside Hitter

    Kelley, a sophomore from Broadlands, Va., helped Shenandoah to a 3-0 week with 3-0 wins over Gallaudet and Guilford and a 3-2 triumph over Goucher. Kelley was responsible for 36.5 points of the Hornets' offense, collecting 28 kills and 23 digs to go with six aces and four blocks. She had 10 kills each against Guilford and Gallaudet, adding five digs, three blocks and two aces against the Quakers. Versus Goucher, she went for eight kills, 16 digs, four assists and three aces. On the season, Kelley has racked up 98 kills with 52 digs and 25 total blocks.

    Barrett, a junior from Stafford, Va., led VWC to a 3-1 week with 55 kills, 51 digs, nine aces, and a .319 hitting percentage over the four matches. Twice she registered 18 kills, adding 10 digs in a 3-0 setback to Salisbury and 12 digs in a 3-1 win at Shenandoah. She had 14 kills, 13 digs and four aces in a 3-0 win over Hollins, while registering the fouth-best hitting percentage in school history at .722 following just one error in 18 attacks. She finished with five kills, three aces and 16 digs at 5.33 per set in a 3-0 win over Marymount (Va.). Barrett currently leads the ODAC in total kills (219) and is third at 3.65 kills per set.
  • Mackenzie Shand, Washington and Lee, Jr., Middle Blocker

    Shand, a junior from Saline, Mich., put together a strong week in leading Washington and Lee to a trio of wins in its first three ODAC matches. Shand hit .582 from her middle position, committing just four errors in 55 total attacks. She recorded double-digit kills in each match, hammering out 13 winners and a .600 hitting percentage with three digs and three blocks (1 solo) in a 3-0 win at Lynchburg. She added 12 kills with two aces and four digs against Hollins (3-0) and 11 more kills versus Randolph (3-0). She finished with week with 36 overall kills at a 4.0 per game clip, adding in nine digs and five total blocks (3 solo). Shand currently leads the ODAC in hitting percentage (.407) and is fifth in blocks (0.80/game).

    Lowers, a senior from Suffolk, Va., picks up her second straight weekly honor after hammering 52 kills to go with 30 digs and eight total blocks in the Yellow Jackets 3-0 showing at the Franklin & Marshall Scramble. She opened with a rare 20-20 match with 23 kills and 22 digs to go with two blocks in a 3-2 win over the host Diplomats. She added 12 kills and five blocks in a 3-0 win over Penn St.-Altoona, and then came three short of another 20-kill performance with 17 winners and a .552 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win over Lebanon Valley. Lowers currently leads the ODAC in kills per game (3.90) and is second in overall kills (121).

    Lowers, a senior from Suffolk, Va., led Randolph-Macon to a 5-1 start to its season with a strong showing over six matches. Lowers registered 69 total kills, 57 digs, nine total blocks and four aces. She hammered out 18 winners with 10 digs in a 3-0 win over Rivier. In a 3-2 triumph over Mary Washington, Lowers went for 14 kills, 18 digs and four solo blocks. Her third double-double came via 12 winners and a dozen digs in the Yellow Jackets lone setback of the week to Wartburg.
