ODAC Players of the Week

FOOTBALL
Rennel Marshall, Emory & Henry, Jr.,
Linebacker
Marshall, a junior from Rustburg, Va.,
helped the Wasps to a 36-9 win on the road at Washington and Lee on
Saturday. Marshall notched 10 total tackles, including nine solo,
with a pair of tackles for a loss that cost the Generals seven
yards of offense. Early in the second quarter, he forced a fumble
that led a touchdown and a 21-0 Emory & Henry lead. Later in
the frame, Marshall got in on the scoring as he recovered a fumble
on a point-after attempt and darted 98 yards for a defensive
two-point conversion. For the season, Marshall has recorded 57
total tackles (34 solo).

FOOTBALL
John Byrd, Randolph-Macon, Jr., Running
Back
Byrd, a junior from Manassas Park,
Va., had a career-day in the Yellow Jackets 47-23 road win at
Shenandoah. He racked up career-highs of 33 carries and 219 yards,
the best rushing output for a back in the ODAC this season. He
averaged 6.6 yards per rush, adding a pair of touchdowns to his
day. His efforts spearheaded a 361-yard rushing explosion by R-MC,
which in turn led to a 41:39-to-18:21 advantage in time of
posssession. Byrd scored on carries of one and 16 yards, and helped
R-MC set the tone with 146 yards before halftime. For the season,
Byrd leads the ODAC with 933 rushing yards and a 116.6 yards per
game average.

FIELD HOCKEY
Ashley Cross, Shenandoah, Sr.,
Attack
Cross, a senior from Agawam, Mass.,
put together an eight-point week as the Hornets defeated Eastern
Mennonite University twice -- once to cap the regular season and a
second time in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament. In the
regular season finale, Cross scored the game-winner with less than
two minutes to play for a 2-1 win to lock up the third seed in the
ODAC Tournament. In the quarterfinals, Cross scored all three of
Shenandoah's goals to propel the Hornets into a semifinal matchup
with second-seeded Bridgewater on Wednesday. For the season, Cross
leads the ODAC in goals scored (15) and is tied for the lead in
points (33).

GOLF
Brian Burt, Hampden-Sydney,
Sr.
Burt, a senior from Holt, Mich., was
the top ODAC finisher at the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial hosted by
Guilford College. He finished in a tie for third at eight-over part
after posting rounds of 75 and 73 on the 6,740-yard par-70 layout
at the Sedgefield Dye Course. The finished marked his fifth top-10
and fourth top-five showing in six events competed this fall.
Burt's efforts helped H-SC to 11th place in the team standings.

MEN'S SOCCER
Christopher Fisher, Roanoke, Sr.,
Forward
Fisher, a senior from Morehead City,
N.C., notched a pair of game-winning goals to propel Roanoke to two
wins against conference competition last week. In the regular
season finale against Guilford, Fisher found the back of the net
for the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over the Quakers. He
repeated the effort in the Maroons quarterfinal against Eastern
Mennonite, scoring in the 50th minute to give RC a 1-0 win and a
date in the semifinals with fifth-seeded Washington and Lee. The
goals were the first two for Fisher this season.

SWIMMING
Eddie Kirby Jr., Greensboro,
Sr.
Kirby, a senior from Fairview, N.C.,
helped The Pride to a 78-72 dual meet win over Gallaudet
University. He won a pair of individual events, stopping the
watches first in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard
backstroke in times of 2:20.90 and 1:09.69, respectively. He and
his teammates also won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:49.69.

SWIMMING
Jessica Richardson, Emory & Henry,

Richardson, a sophomore from Vero
Beach, Fla., won a pair of individual events and helped her
teammates to a relay win in a dual meet victory at Hollins.
Richardson posted ODAC top-five times in winning both the 200-yard
individual medley and 100-yard backstroke. She stopped the watches
in 2:22.20 and 1:03.67, respectively. She and her teammates won the
200-yard medley relay in 1:55.72, with Richardson swimming the
freestyle leg in an unofficial split of 0:24.9.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Danielle Burris, Sheanndoah, Jr.,
Midfielder
Burris, a junior from Cooksville, Md.,
propelled the Hornets to a seeded upset win in the ODAC
quarterfinals over regionally-ranked Bridgewater College. Burris
opened the game's scoring in the ninth minute, and later added a
38th minute tally for a 2-0 halftime lead. She later added an
assist on the game's final goal, pushing the Hornets into the
semifinals and a matchup with second-seeded Washington and Lee on
Wednesday. Burris ranks eighth in the ODAC with 23 points, leading
SU with nine goals and five assists.

VOLLEYBALL
Courtney Lowers, Randolph-Macon, Jr.,
Outside Hitter
Lowers, a junior from Suffolk, Va.,
led the Yellow Jackets to a 2-2 record that included a conference
win over Bridgewater to lock up the top seed in the upcoming ODAC
Tournament. Lowers racked up an ODAC-high 62 kills on the week and
4.77 per set, adding to her ODAC-leading marks of 450 kills and
4.50 per set. She had 24 winners in a 3-0 win over Hardin-Simmons,
hitting .538 for the match and picking up six digs and two blocks.
She notched 16 kills and 16 digs in a 3-1 loss to nationally
fourth-ranked Wittenberg. She also had 11 kills apiece in a 3-0 win
over Bridgewater and a 3-0 loss to nationally 21st-ranked Trinity
(Texas). She had six and nine digs in those matches, respectively.
Lowers also leads the ODAC in total attacks (1,255), points won
(507.5) and points won per set (5.1).
