  • McCall Tabbed New Eagles Softball Head Coach
    June 23, 2014
    For the first time in nearly a quarter-century, Bridgewater College will have a new head softball coach. Following a nationwide search, Bridgewater College Director of Athletics Curt Kendall has announced the hiring of Kim McCall as the Eagles' new head softball coach. McCall takes the reins from longtime head coach Donnie Fulk, who announced in September that he would be retiring at the conclusion of the 2014 season after 23 years at the helm of the program.
  • GC's Hayes, VWC's Higginbotham Lead ODAC in NFCA Awards

    Guilford College second baseman Cynthia Hayes and Virginia Wesleyan College centerfield Tori Higginbotham were tabbed First Team All-Americans by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Wednesday evening in a ceremony prior to the start of the NCAA Division III Softball National Championship Series. The duo lead a list of 21 softball awards earned by ODAC student-athletes.
  • Marlins' Season Closes with NCAA Loss to Christopher Newport

    Ninth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College saw it season come to a close on Sunday afternoon as the host Marlins dropped an 8-5 decision to Christopher Newport. It marked the second loss in two days to Captains, propelling them to the super regionals of the NCAA Tournament. VWC caps its season with a 39-7 overall record.
  • Big Third Innings Lifts Hornets Past Agnes Scott in NCAA Play

    A four run third inning extended the Hornets season as the No. 3 seeded Lynchburg College softball team won an elimination game 6-1 over No. 4 seeded Agnes Scott College on Saturday afternoon in the Atlanta Regional of the NCAA tournament.
  • Marlins Split with CNU and Catholic on Saturday in NCAA Softball Action

    Ninth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College went 1-1 in NCAA softball action on Saturday. The Marlins dropped a 7-6 decision to Christopher Newport to start the day, but came back with a 6-3 triumph over Catholic to remain in the tournament. VWC must defeat CNU twice on Sunday to move on to the next round.
  • Virginia Wesleyan Batters Staten Island in NCAA Softball Regional Opener

    Virginia Wesleyan College scored seven runs in the first two innings on the way to a 9-3 victory over the College of Staten Island on Friday afternoon at Marlin Softball Field. The win moves the Marlins to Saturday's 11:00 a.m. time slot that features the victors of Friday's two games. VWC will face Christopher Newport University, which defeated Catholic University, 6-1.
  • Lynchburg Falls to Piedmont in NCAA Softball First Round Matchup

    The first game of the Atlanta Regional did not go the way of the Hornet softball team as the No. 2 seed, Piedmont College, downed No. 3 seed Lynchburg College 6-4 in the first game. LC will face Agnes Scott on Saturday morning as the Scotties lost to host Emory, 5-1, in their opener.
  • Virginia Wesleyan, Lynchburg Earn Bids to NCAA Softball Tournament

    A pair of schools will represent themselves and the ODAC in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on Monday. Virginia Wesleyan College, winners of the ODAC title and the conference's automatic bid, will host a four-team regional round this weekend. Lynchburg College picked up one of 19 at-large selections and will make the trip south to Emory University.

  • Virginia Wesleyan Takes Home Three Major ODAC Softball Awards

    Two-time reigning ODAC champion Virginia Wesleyan secured three major honors as part of the 2014 All-ODAC Softball Awards. Outfielder Tori Higginbotham won her third straight ODAC Player of the Year accolade, while teammate Kristina Karagiorgis is the ODAC Pitcher of the Year for a second time. VWC mentor Brandon Elliott picked up ODAC Coach of the Year laurels. Randolph first baseman Hunter Glavé earned ODAC Rookie of the Year honors, and Lynchburg second baseman Melanie Tenney secured the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award.
  • Marlins Tie ODAC Record with Eighth Softball Title

    Virginia Wesleyan College pushed across two runs in the top of the first inning and didn't look back as the Marlins defeated Randolph-Macon College, 5-2, to secure their second straight ODAC softball title. The win also marked their eighth all-time crown, tying Roanoke College for the most in conference history. VWC will now enter the NCAA Division III Tournament as the ODAC's automatic qualifier.
  • Eight-Team Field Set for ODAC Softball Tournament

    Virginia Wesleyan College (33-5 overall, 18-2 ODAC) enters the 2014 ODAC Softball Tournament as the top seed for the third straight season as the Marlins look to repeat as conference champs and collect their third league trophy in the last four years. VWC is one of eight teams headed to the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va., for the league's annual postseason event.

  • Virginia Wesleyan Headlines ODAC Softball Preseason Poll

    Virginia Wesleyan College received 10 first place votes on the way to 100 total points to headline the 2014 ODAC Softball Preseason Poll. Three teams tied for second behind the Marlins, all receiving 79 tallies from the league's head coaches. Lynchburg College secured the remaining first place vote and sits level with Randolph-Macon College and Roanoke College in the annual survey.
  • ODAC and Select Schools Tabbed to Host NCAA Division III Championships

    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference and two of its schools were selected to host or co-host 14 NCAA Division III championships over the next four years thru 2018. The conference will co-host 11 events, 10 of which will be in conjunction with the City of Salem. Guilford College is charged with men's golf in 2018, and Washington and Lee University was awarded two years as host of field hockey in 2014 and 2015. Salem will also host three Division II championships, of which the ODAC may assist.
  • Eagles' Fulk to Retire Following 2014 Softball Season

    After a career spanning three different decades and nearly 600 wins, Bridgewater College softball coach Donnie Fulk has announced that he will step down from the head coaching position and enter retirement following the conclusion of the 2014 season. Fulk has been at the head of the Bridgewater softball program since 1992 and has seen the Eagles go from a fledgling program to one of the most respected programs in the region.
