ODAC Players of the Week

Thru Week Prior to: April 22, 2013

BASEBALL
Austin Gregory, Roanoke, So, Pitcher
Gregory, a sophomore from Roanoke, Va., appeared three times out of the bullpen for the Maroons and picked up two wins and a save as the Roanoke secured its first ODAC tournament placement since 2004. Gregory opened the week with two scoreless innings of two-hit ball to earn the win in a 4-3 10-inning triumph over Lynchburg. He picked up his second victory of the week with 2.2 innings of work in a 6-5 win over Eastern Mennonite. He gave up one run on four hits. In the nightcap of that series, he tossed the final two frames to record his second save of the season. On the year, Gregory is tied for the league lead with 20 appearances. He owns a 3-1 record with 37 strikeouts and a 2.86 earned run average in 44.0 innings of work.

BASEBALL
J.J. McDaniel, Shenandoah, So., Utility
McDaniel, a sophomore from Stafford, Va., put together a week that included the first Shenandoah cycle since 1996. McDaniel helped the Hornets to a 5-1 week by hitting .560 (14-for-25) with five doubles, a triple, three homers, 10 runs scored and 13 runs batted in. He also walked three times towards a .607 on-base percentage. The nine extra-base hits pushed him to a 1.200 slugging percentage. McDaniel had three multi-hit games, including two five-hit outings. In the first game against Washington and Lee, McDaniel was 5-for-6 with a double, two homers and seven RBI. He followed that up three days later by hitting for the cycle in a win over St. Joe's-Long Island. He went 5-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, a homer, four runs scored and three RBI. For the season, McDaniel is hitting .328 with six homers and 33 runs driven in. He's eighth in the ODAC with a .597 slugging percentage. He and his teammates own the third seed in the upcoming ODAC Baseball Tournament.

GOLF
Colby Francis, Lynchburg, Freshman
Francis, a freshman from Gladys, Va., finished third last week at the Heath Memorial hosted by the Newport News Apprentice School. He shot a 7-over par 149 (74-75) over two days to help LC place second, missing the team title by just one stroke. Francis leads Lynchburg with a 76.8 per round average, good enough for 13th in the conference.

MEN'S LACROSSE
Richard Lachlan, Roanoke, Sr., Attack
Lachlan, a senior from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, provided late-game heroics for a second straight week, helping lead the Maroons to a pair of conference wins. Lachlan opened the week with a goal and two assists in a 16-5 road win at Guilford. He had three groundballs in that contest. He followed up with three goals in a 9-8 win over 12th-ranked Washington and Lee. His final goal of the day, which proved to be the game's last goal, broke an 8-8 tie with 5:09 to play. For the season, Lachlan leads the ODAC in goals scored with 43. He is fourth in points with 54.

MEN'S TENNIS
Graham Wilson, Virginia Wesleyan, Freshman
Wilson, a freshman from Newport News, Va., opened with a 6-4, 6-5 win at #1 singles over Hampden-Sydney, and then followed that 8-1 at #1 doubles with classmate Drew Tomajczyk. Wilson then helped the Marlins to a 5-2 win over Guilford in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals with a 8-6 win at #1 doubles with Tomajczyk. Wilson is now 23-6 overall in 2012-13. His victories total is a rookie record at VWC and ties the third highest overall victory total in program history. He is 17-4 at the No. 1 flight in singles, which is also a VWC rookie record for wins at the flight and ties the overall VWC record for wins at the No. 1 flight. He and Tomajczyk are riding a seven-match winning streak at #1 doubles.

SOFTBALL
Heather Lewis, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Pitcher
Lewis, a senior from Glen Allen, Va., went 3-0 on the week with one and nearly a second shutout. She went the distance and then some in all three starts, beginning with a 3-1 triumph over Southern Virginia to begin the week. She gave up one unearned run on seven hits in a full seven innings. She followed that with a five-hit shutout of Shenandoah in a 4-0 Randolph-Macon win. She fanned four and didn't walk a batter in that contest. Her final appearance went extra innings as she worked all nine innings for R-MC's 5-3 win over Roanoke. She gave up three runs on seven hits, walking a pair and fanning two. For the season, Lewis is 19-3, with the 19 wins marking an ODAC-best. She is fourth with a 1.40 earned run average and second with 134.2 innings pitched. In her 20 starts, she has completed 19, tops in the ODAC.

SOFTBALL
Courtney Allman, Eastern Mennonite, Sr., Infield
Allman, a senior from Solon, Va., helped lead Eastern Mennonite to four wins in its 5-1 that included a season-ending sweep of 16th-ranked Lynchburg College to secure a spot in the upcoming ODAC Softball Tournament. Allman went 6-for-13 (.462) with a double, two homers, six runs scored and nine runs batted in. She had at least one hit in each contest, highlighted by two hits and a pair of RBI in game one against LC. She had five RBI in total against the Hornets as she drove in three with a two-run homer in the nightcap. She also had three RBI when she hit three-run shot against Mary Washington to begin the week. For the season, Allman is batting .413 (10th in the ODAC) with eight homers (5th) and 41 runs driven in (5th). She is EMU's career leader in homers, RBI and walks.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Lily Colley, Guilford, Jr., Attack
Colley, a junior from Wells, Maine, picks up her second straight weekly honor after leading the Quakers to wins over Roanoke and Washington and Lee. The two victories gave Guilford their first undefeated conference season at 10-0 and the top seed heading into the ODAC Tournament. College scored 11 times and dished out four assists between the two contests. She had a career-high seven goals with two assists as the Quakers' recovered from a 12-9 second-half deficit. Colley came back with four goals and two helpers in an 11-6 triumph over the Generals, increasing GC's winning streak to 14 games. She has increased her season point total to 110, one shy of teammate E'leyna Garcia for the most in school history. Also second in the ODAC in goals scored (71) and assists (39), Colley moved into a share of third place on Guilford's career scoring chart with 188 points (119g, 69a).

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Briell Smith, Roanoke, Freshman
Smith, a freshman from Locust Valley, N.Y., helped the Maroons advance to the ODAC Tournament semifinals with 2-0 record at #3 singles and a 1-1 mark at #1 doubles. In a 5-4 regular season-ending win over Bridgewater, Smith won 6-1, 6-1 in singles play before falling 8-4 in doubles action with teammate Laura Dodson. The duo rebounded for an 8-2 win over Randolph College at #1 doubles in the ODAC quarterfinals. Smith also won her #3 singles match against the WildCats, 6-3, 6-0, to help the Maroons to a 5-0 team win.
