2011 Field Hockey Players of the Week

  • Carrie Jacobs, Randolph-Macon, Freshman, Back

    Jacobs, a freshman from Orange, Va., helped R-MC lock up second place and a first-round bye in the ODAC Tournament with a hat trick against Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday. In R-MC’s 4-1 win, Jacobs tied the game at 1-1 and then added another first half strike to pull the Jackets ahead for good at 2-1. Jacobs capped the scoring 64 minutes in to seal the win for R-MC. Jacobs now has a team best 12 goals on the season, which is second in the ODAC.
  • Galen Goodman, Bridgewater, Sophomore, Attack

    Goodman, a sophomore from Poquoson, Va., helped the Eagles stay in the running for second in the ODAC field hockey standings by leading Bridgewater to a comeback victory over Randolph-Macon last week. Goodman kicked off the game's scoring with the only first half goal of the contest, but Randolph-Macon added two in the second half to take a 2-1 lead. Goodman knotted the game with a little less than seven minutes to go, scoring the final goal of regulation. She completed her hat-trick 4:26 into the extra frame, propelling the Eagles to victory. Goodman leads BC with eight goals this season.

    Leonard, a junior from Yorktown, Va., picks up her fifth weekly honor by leading the Hornets to a 5-0 shutout victory over then second-ranked Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday night. Leonard played a part in four of the five goals as she notched a hat-trick and assisted on one other tally. She broke a 0-0 tie in the 56th minute with her first goal of the contest, and then followed that with another tally 78 seconds later. She struck again in the 63rd minute for a 4-0 lead, and assisted Nicole Marburger on the game's final goal in the 67th minute. Leonard leads the ODAC in points (51) and goals scored (22). Entering last week, she was fifth in the country in points per game (3.67) and sixth in goals per game (1.58). She has registered at least one point in all but one game this season, and has scored two goals in 6-of-13 games played.

    Leonard, a junior from Yorktown, Va., earns her fourth weekly award of the 2011 season after notching five goals in a pair of victories for the Hornets this past week. Leonard opened the week with four goals in a 10-0 victory over ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan. She followed that up with a tally in a 4-0 win against York College (Pa.). Leonard leads the #4 Hornets and the ODAC in points (44), goals scored (19) and shots taken (120). Entering last week's games, Lynchburg was tops in the country in goals scored per game (5.3) and scoring margin (4.6). Leonard was tied for seventh in points per game (3.4) and 11th in goals per game (1.4).

    Leonard, a junior from Yorktown, Va., picks up her third weekly award of the season. Leonard scored five goals last week with four of them coming in one game against ODAC rival Roanoke College. She added another goal against Washington & Lee University to bring her total to five on the week. Leonard ranks first in the ODAC in points (34) and goals (14).
  • JENNIFER BATEMAN, Bridgewater, Junior, Defender

    Bateman, a junior from Poolesville, Md., aided the Eagles to 2-0 week that included a conference win over Washington and Lee. Bateman netted a pair of goals in a midweek victory over Hood College, including the eventual game-winner. The junior also notched an assist in the victory for a five-point game. On Friday night in Lexington, Bateman scored the second goal of the game for the Eagles and notched a defensive save in a 3-1 victory over Washington and Lee.

    Leonard, a junior from Yorktown, Va., picks up her second weekly award of the 2011 campaign. Leonard helped Lynchburg to a 3-0 week that including shutout victories over Stevenson (8-0) and St. Mary's (10-0) and a 2-1 upset of then #1 ranked Messiah. Leonard scored in all three games as she notched four goals and three assists for 11 points on the week. Against Messiah, she scored LC's first goal and dished out the assist on the game-winning tally. She went on to add one goal in the win over Stevenson, and then recorded two goals and two helpers in the whitewashing of St. Mary's. Leonard currently leads the ODAC in points (23) and goals scored (9), and is tied atop the league in assists (5).
  • KELLI WILLIAMS, Lynchburg, Sophomore, Midfielder

    Williams, a sophomore from New Castle, Del., scored two goals and dished out an assist en route to a 4-1 victory over fifth-ranked Lebanon Valley College on Saturday. Williams ranks second in the ODAC in both points (10) and goals scored (4) so far this season. The win over Lebanon Valley is first of two consecutive ranked opponents for the 13th-ranked Hornets. They play #2 Messiah on Tuesday.
  • LINDSAY LEONARD, Lynchburg, Junior, Attack

    Leonard, a junior from Torktown, Va., scored five goals in the first three games of the season for Lynchburg, helping the 13th-ranked Hornets to a 2-1 start. She also added two assists to bring her to 12 points through the first week of the season. Leonard, who led the ODAC in assists (10) and finished second in points (42) and third in goals scored (16) in 2010, notched two goals and dished out a pair of helpers in an 8-2 triumph over DePauw University (Ind.) She followed that up with two more tallies in a 4-0 whitewashing of Washington College. Earlier in the week, Leonard scored the Hornets only goal in a 3-1 loss to the University of Mary Washington.
