2020 ODAC Baseball Players of the Week

  • Jeffrey Snider, Bridgewater, Fy., 3rd Base
    March 16, 2020
    Snider, a first-year from Resisterstown, Md., put together a strong two-game showing as Bridgewater went 1-1 last week. In a 20-12 setback to Christopher Newport, Snider went 4-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs score. He stayed hot in the second game of the week as he went 3-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored in the Eagles' 14-9 win at Washington and Lee. For the season, Snider is hitting .368 with a .910 OPS (.489 OBP/.421 SLG). He has scored eight runs and driven in seven.
  • Brandon Pond, Lynchburg, So., Starting Pitcher

    Pond, a sophomore from Chesterfield, Va., improved to 2-1 on the season with a strong start to lead Lynchburg to an 8-2 win at Pfeiffer. Pond work 7.0 innings and gave up just one run on four hits. He walked one and fanned five to keep his earned run average right where it was at 1.29. He sat down eight straight from the last out of the first inning to the first out of the fourth frame. Pond has fanned 20 batters in 21.0 frames this season with opponents hitting just .179 off him.
  • Frankie Ritter, Shenandoah, So., Shortstop

    Ritter, a sophomore from Stephens City, Va., slashed at .667/.688/1.167 as Shenandoah rattled off three more victories to improve to 10-1 on the season. Ritter reached base in 11-of-15 plate appearances as he went 8-of-12 with three walks, three triples, two RBI, and five runs scored in three multi-hit efforts. He opened by going 3-for-4 with a walk, two triples, and two runs scored in a 15-0 win over Emory & Henry. Ritter followed that by going 3-for-5 in game two with a RBI and a run scored in a 7-2 victory. The next day, he went 2-for-3 with two walks, a triple, RBI, and two runs score as the Hornets posted a 19-4 triumph over Mt. Aloysius. For the season, Ritter is hitting .366 (15-of-41) with an ODAC-best four triples. He has scored 11 runs and driven in five, and is seventh in the ODAC with a .585 slugging percentage.
  • Carson Kulina, Shenandoah, So., Pitcher

    Kulina, a sophomore from Hummelstown, Pa., completely shutdown Emory & Henry as he tossed 6.0 shutout frames on the way to a 15-0 victory in game one of a sweep of the Wasps. Kulina allowed just three baserunners as he surrendered two hits and one batter reached via an error. He did not walk a batter and fanned six including the side in the fourth inning and the final two batters he faced. He finished his time on the hill having retired 10 straight batters. For the season, Kulina is 1-0 in four starts covering 16.2 innings of work. He owns a 2.70 ERA with 16 strikeouts and a .127 batting average against having allowed just seven hits.
  • Jonathan Triesler, Hampden-Sydney, Sr., Pitcher/Infielder

    Triesler, a senior from Chesterfield, Va., put together a strong week both on the hill and at the dish in three wins for Hampden-Sydney. In a 3-0 triumph over Southern Virginia, Triesler started and worked 8.0 scoreless innings. He gave up just three hits and did not walk a batter while striking out nine. He set down the first six Knights he faced and left the game having retired 13 straight batters. Triesler went 5-for-8 with two doubles, two RBI, two walks, and three runs scored in the other two games he played. That included a 4-for-4 day in a 9-4 win over Ithaca. For the season, Triesler is 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA in 15.0 innings of work. He has yet to walk a batter and has fanned 18. At the dish, he's hitting .393 with seven RBI and eight runs scored.
  • Reece Yeargain, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Catcher

    Yeargain, a senior from Chester, Va., hit safely in all four games for Randolph-Macon last week, helping the Yellow Jackets to a 4-0 showing. Yeargain posted a .412/.524/.471 slash line as he went 7-for-17 with a double, eight RBI, six runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base. He went 1-for-5 in a 7-6 win at Christopher Newport, driving in four runs including the go-ahead tally in the top of the ninth inning. As part of a three-game series sweep (8-4, 12-6, 5-4) of The College of New Jersey, Yeargain went 4-for-4 game two with a walk, three RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base. He scored twice in each game of the series. For the season, Yeargain is hitting .356 and ranks fourth in the ODAC in both runs scored (14) and runs driven in (14). He is sixth in hits (16).
  • Keegan Woolford, Shenandoah, Sr., 1st Base

    Woolford, a senior from Chartlottesville, Va., continues to rip the cover off the ball in the early season as he posted a .538/.647/1.077 slash line in four Hornets wins last week. He was 7-of-13 from the dish with four walks. He homered twice and posted a double with eight RBI and seven runs scored. Woolford opened with a 3-for-4 day with a walk and two runs scored in a 10-7 win over Lebanon Valley. In game one of a doubleheader sweep (5-3, 10-1) of Widener, Woolford homered and drover in three runs. He doubled and walked twice with two RBI and two runs scored in game two. He closed the week with two hits including a homer to go with a walk, three RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base. For the season, Woolford is hitting .500 (9-for-18) with four homers, 12 RBI, and 10 runs scored. He owns a .625 on-base percentage and a 1.222 slugging percentage.
  • Evan Parks, Roanoke, So., Starting Pitcher

    Parks, a sophomore from Roanoke, Va., tossed a gem against Elizabethtown to move to 2-0 on the young season. Parks worked a full 9.0 frames on the way to earning a 6-0 shutout of the Blue Jays. He surrendered just four hits and did not walk a batter despite hitting one. He fanned seven on the way to facing just 32 batters. Parks set down the first 11 Blue Jays to face him and enjoyed a run of eight straight outs thru the middle innings. Parks is now 2-0 in three starts with a 1.00 ERA over 18.0 innings of work. Opponents are hitting just .161 against him.
  • Jackson Gazin, Washington and Lee, So., Infielder

    Gazin, a sophomore from Reisterstown, Md., was the epitome of a table-setting leadoff hitter for Washington and Lee as the Generals posted a three-game sweep over Averett University. Gazin went 8-for-11 with a pair of walks over the three outings to help him slash .727/.769/.818. He was 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and a run scored in a 4-2 win in game one. He followed that by going 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in a 8-0 shutout in game two. Gazin posted his second 3-for-3 contest in an 8-2 victory in game three. He walked twice, doubled, stole three bases, and scored three runs.
  • John Judy, Eastern Mennonite, Sr., Starting Pitcher

    Judy, a senior from Shanks, W.Va., picks up a second straight ODAC weekly honor to open the season after improving to 2-0 on the season. Judy helped the Royals recover form a 4-1 loss in game one of a pair of seven-inning contests against Southern Virginia. He went six scoreless frames to earn a 4-0 victory. He allowed just three baserunners total as he gave up one hit and walked one. He fanned nine batters. For the season, Judy is 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 12.0 innings of work.
  • Mike Nickles, Randolph-Macon, Sr., 3rd Base

    Nickles, a senior from Stafford, Va., started off his season with a strong two-game set in a pair of victories for Randolph-Macon. The reigning ODAC Player of the Year reached base in seven of his first 10 plate appearances on the way to a .517/.700/1.143 slash line. He went 4-for-7 with three walks, two runs scored, a double, two-run homer, and three RBI as the Yellow Jackets rang up 6-3 and 9-3 victories over Rhodes College and Belhaven, respectively. Nickles' two-run blast came against Rhodes, while he went 3-for-4 with a double and two walks against Belhaven.
  • John Judy, Eastern Mennonite, Sr., Starter

    Judy, a senior from Shanks, W.Va., opened up his season with six strong innings to earn the win, 2-1, over N.C. Wesleyan and lock up a series victory over Battling Bishops. In Judy's six frames, he gave up one run on five hits. He walked a pair of fanned four in the seven-inning series rubber match. Earlier in the series, Judy went 4-for-6 at the dish with a triple and run driven in.
