  • ODAC Announces Jopson and Berkley Award Winners
    May 31, 2013
    A pair of Lynchburg, Va., based schools saw one of their student-athletes earn the conference's top honors in a vote of the ODAC Board of Directors at the recently completed annual league meetings. Lynchburg College field hockey standout Shelly Milks was recognized as the Marjorie Berkley Award winner, while Randolph College men's basketball star Colton Hunt was tabbed the winner of the Harry G. "Doc" Jopson Award.
  • Shenandoah Names Smeltzer to Field Hockey Post
    February 11, 2013
    Shenandoah University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Doug Zipp announced Monday that Ashley Smeltzer has accepted the position of head women's field hockey coach. Smeltzer takes over the Shenandoah program after five years as an assistant coach at longtime D-III power University of Rochester. She is the third head coach in program history and takes over the team from Kim Iman-Bianchi.
  • Marlins Tab Restivo as New Field Hockey Head Coach

    Virginia Wesleyan College named Christina Restivo as its new field hockey head coach this week. The former University of Maryland standout goalkeeper was an assistant coach at Wake Forest University for the past six years. She is no stranger to postseason play, having won a pair of championships as a Terrapin (2005-06) and helping the Demon Deacons to the title game in 2008.
  • ODAC/StellarOne Fall Sportsmanship Teams Announced

    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2012 ODAC/StellarOne Sportsmanship Teams in each of seven fall sports sponsored by the conference. This marks the fourth year the league has recognized these fine student-athletes for their excellence in sportsmanship.
  • LC's Milks Named a NFHCA All-American for Third Time

    Lynchburg College senior midfielder Shelly Milks was named an All-American for the third time by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Tuesday. Milks earned recognition on the first team for the second straight season. Her accolades are joined by those of Hornet teammates Lindsay Leonard, Nicole Marburger and Melanie Tenney, who each earned All-Region honors.
  • LC Falls to Mary Washington in NCAA Field Hockey Quarterfinals

    The Lynchburg College field hockey team took an early lead but Mary Washington fought back, scoring with under ten minutes remaining to end the Hornets' season 3-2 in the NCAA Division III field hockey national quarterfinals held on Sunday at Mary Washington.
  • Hornets Shutout Messiah to Advance in NCAA Tournament

    A pair of seniors, including Shelly Milks (pictured), notched goals for Lynchburg College on Saturday afternoon as the Hornets defeated Messiah College, 2-0, in the second round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament. LC moves on to face the host school, the University of Mary Washington, on Sunday.
  • Lynchburg's Milks Headlines ODAC Field Hockey Awards with Two Honors

    Lynchburg midfielder Shelly Milks took home a pair of major honors as part of the 2012 ODAC Field Hockey awards. The Hornets' senior won ODAC Player of the Year distinction for the third straight season, and was tabbed the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete for the second year in a row. Shenandoah's Kim Iman-Bianchi was named the ODAC Coach of the Year, while SU freshman Alexandra Darrow was selected as the ODAC Rookie of the Year.
  • Leonard Extends Hornets' Season with OT Winner

    Lynchburg senior attack Lindsay Leonard took a feed from Dana Nelson and deposited it past the keep just 48 seconds into overtime as the Hornets upended Catholic University, 4-3, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament. LC moves on to Messiah College on Saturday at the University of Mary Washington.
  • LC Field Hockey to Host First-Round NCAA Tournament Game

    The 2012 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship Tournament bracket was released early Monday morning, and Lynchburg College will face a familiar opponent on a familiar surface on Wednesday, November 7.
  • Lynchburg Captures Seventh Straight ODAC Field Hockey Crown

    Top-seeded Lynchburg College shutout Randolph-Macon College, 3-0, in the ODAC Field Hockey Tournament championship game on Saturday evening, capture the program's seventh straight league title. The win earns the Hornets the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament, which is set to begin play next week.

  • ODAC Field Hockey Tournament Pairings Set

    Lynchburg College and Randolph-Macon College earned byes into the semifinals of the 2012 ODAC Field Hockey Tournament for the third consecutive year in the sport’s six-team format. The Hornets garnered the top seed after winning each of their eight league contests. The Yellow Jackets enter the ODAC postseason as the second seed with a 7-1 league mark.

  • Lynchburg Included in First NCAA Field Hockey Regional Rankings

    The NCAA released its first set of regional rankings on Wednesday and Lynchburg College sits fifth in the South Region for Division III field hockey. The Hornets are 12-3 overall and 6-0 in league play. Additionally, LC is 10-2 record in the region.
  • ODAC Spotlight Athlete of the Week: Amber VanHorn, SU Field Hockey

    Shenandoah senior field hockey defender Amber VanHorn earned ODAC Player of the Week honors after helping the Hornets to a pair of wins last week. She notched three goals off penalty corners, including a pair in a 3-2 win over St. Mary's and the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Roanoke. SU has now won nine games this season, a new program record.

  • ODAC Field Hockey Tabs Lynchburg to Top Poll Position

    Lynchburg picked up eight first place votes and 64 total points to lead the 2012 ODAC Field Hockey preseason poll. Randolph-Macon collected 56 tallies, including the remaining top spot consideration. Eastern Mennonite rounds out the top three with 45 points.
