    All successful runs come to an end at some point, and on Sunday afternoon, University of Lynchburg's run in the NCAA Division III baseball tournament concluded. The Hornets fell 11-2 to Birmingham-Southern College in the semifinal round of the High Point Regional at Truist Point.

  • Hornets Set Program Wins Record in Topping LaGrange to Open NCAA Play

    University of Lynchburg's baseball team set a new standard for wins in a season Thursday, as the Hornets opened NCAA tournament play with a 4-1 win over LaGrange at Truist Point in High Point, N.C. It was the Hornets' 35th win of the season, eclipsing the mark set in 2012, also the last year that Lynchburg reached the national stage.

    The NCAA announced the field for the upcoming Division III Baseball Championship on Sunday night. The University of Lynchburg, owners of the ODAC's automatic bid, will represent the conference in the 48-team bracket determined by the NCAA Division III Baseball Committee.

    PJ Alvanos belted a two-run game-tying homer and Avery Combs pinch-hit single plated the deciding run as the University of Lynchburg scored three times in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off with a 9-8 victory over Shenandoah University in the third game of the ODAC Baseball Tournament championship series.
  • ODAC Announces All-ODAC Baseball Awards

    Randolph-Macon College earned seven all-conference assignments while the University of Lynchburg commanded three special individual laurels and joined Shenandoah University with six all-league plaudits each to highlight the 2021 All-ODAC Baseball Awards. Shenandoah second baseman Colby Martin garnered ODAC Player of the Year recognition, while Lynchburg starter Brandon Pond took home the ODAC Pitcher of the Year plaque. Lynchburg mentor Lucas Jones picked up ODAC Coach of the Year status, while his third baseman, Gavin Collins, was tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year. Ferrum College outfielder Josh Greenway received the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award from the conference's athletic communications personnel.
  • ODAC Baseball Tournament | Eight-Team Field Announced

    The 2021 ODAC Baseball Tournament features a familiar feel to start the event, but the progression of the eight-team tourney takes on a new look this season. The field's top seed required tiebreakers to determine, with Randolph-Macon College earning the #1 position over the University of Lynchburg. ODAC baseball moved to a best-of-three series format to start the tournament a couple of years go. That remains in effect this season with each of the top-four seeds hosting series on Saturday and Sunday, May 8-9. That format will continue throughout two more rounds of competition. Two more series will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 15-16, at the higher of the two seeds for both matchups. The champion will be determined on Friday and Saturday, May 21-22, with the final series at the highest remaining seed. The previously mentioned dates should be considered flexible as the event works thru possible weather situations and graduation/commencement ceremonies.

  • ODAC Baseball Poll | Randolph-Macon Leads the Way

    ODAC baseball teams are preparing to return to league parks for the first time since March as the conference progresses deeper into the spring campaign. With an ODAC championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament up for grabs, league coaches benchmarked what will surely be a competitive season in the 2021 ODAC Baseball Coaches Poll. Three teams earned first place recognition with Randolph-Macon College standing atop the table with eight top nods on the way to 118 points. Shenandoah University collected 111 points including three first place votes. The University of Lynchburg secured the remaining first place consideration on the way to 98 tallies.
  • Ullrich Returns to Salem as Roanoke Baseball Head Coach

    On Friday afternoon, Roanoke College Director of Athletics Scott Allison announced that Zach Ullrich is being named head baseball coach. Ullrich returns to Salem where he served on Coach Matt McGuire's staff that led the Maroons to its first ODAC Championship, an NCAA South Regional Championship and a Final Four finish at the NCAA Division III World Series. He will assume the top spot for the baseball program on January 4, 2021.

    Matt McGuire stepped down as head coach of Roanoke College baseball, as announced by the Maroons on Sunday evening. Current assistant coach Cam Cassady has been elevated to interim head coach entering the 2020-21 campaign.
