  • VWC's Bowers Adds Men's Soccer Post

    The 2012 Virginia Wesleyan men's and women's soccer teams will have more in common than ever before as this year they will both be led by one of the most experienced and successful head coaches in Division III soccer. Jeff Bowers has been named Director of Men's and Women's Soccer, adding men's head coaching duties to his role as women's head coach.
  • LC's Olsen Inducted into Hall of Fame

    Lynchburg women's soccer coach, Dr. Todd Olsen, was inducted into the Capital One Academic All-America Hall of Fame, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The ceremony, which took place at CoSIDA's annual convention last week in St. Louis, honored six individuals from all divisions of NCAA competition.

    Building on a storied career, Lynchburg College women's soccer head coach Dr. Todd Olsen has been selected to The Capital One CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association) Academic All-America Hall of Fame. Olsen will be inducted this summer at the CoSIDA Convention in St. Louis along with four others.

    Emory & Henry has selected Linda Schirmeister-Gess to be its Head Women’s Soccer Coach, Director of Athletics Myra Sims announced Friday. Schirmeister-Gess is the fourth head coach in program history. Schirmeister-Gess comes to E&H from Allegheny College in Pennsylvania where she served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons.

    Lynchburg College midfielder and 2011 ODAC Player of the Year, Brittany Klippstein, headlines a long list of postseason honors earned by the ODAC's women's soccer student-athletes and coaches. The Hornets' standout was named to a pair of All-America first teams as part of 37 different awards garnered by the conference's women's soccer stars.
  • Roanoke Eliminated on PK's by Centre

    Roanoke battled #22 Centre to a scoreless tie after 110 minutes of action, but fell 8-7 in penalty kicks Saturday night in an NCAA Tournament match. The Colonels (14-4-3) will advance and play Emory University on Sunday at the Woodruff P.E. Center. The Maroons end the season with a 14-4-2 mark.
  • PK's Sink LC in NCAA First Round

    The SUNY-New Paltz women's soccer team advanced into the second round of play in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Saturday, outscoring 12th-ranked Lynchburg College, 3-2, in a penalty kick shootout. The teams battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie, playing 110 minutes of scoreless soccer.
  • VWC Falls to Williams in NCAA Play

    Williams College scored a goal in the 27th minute on the field at Stevens Institute of Technology and made it stand up in a 1-0 win over VWC in the first round of the NCAA Division III championship tournament. It marked the third straight 1-0 first-round loss for Virginia Wesleyan, which saw it streak of scoreless NCAA tournament games stretch to six straight games.

    LC took home three major awards as the ODAC announced the 2011 Women’s Soccer All-Conference Teams. Brittany Klippstein garnered Player of the Year honors, and Dr. Todd Olsen was selected the Coach of the Year. Dessi Dupuy and W&L's Holley Beasley are Co-Rookies of the Year, and VWC's Jessica Edelman was named the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete.

    Three ODAC teams will enter the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament as both Virginia Wesleyan and Roanoke earned at-large bids to join Lynchburg in the field of 64 teams. The Hornets will host a four-team regional pod, while the Marlins travel to Stevens Institute in Hoboken, N.J., and the Maroons make their way to Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.

    Senior Brittany Klippstein scored the game's only goal as the Lynchburg College women's soccer team defeated Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday 1-0 in the ODAC Championship game. The Hornets captured their second-consecutive ODAC title and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

    Fifth-seeded Washington and Lee advanced in the ODAC women's soccer tournament and avenged a loss from one week ago with a 2-0 victory over fourth-seeded Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon at the Jopson Athletic Complex. The Generals move on to face #1 Lynchburg in the semifinals on Wednesday in Lynchburg. LC beat E&H on Saturday, 8-0.

    Angela Bosco registered three goals on Saturday as the Lynchburg College women's soccer team defeated Emory & Henry College, 8-0, in the quarterfinals of the ODAC women's soccer tournament. The top-seeded Hornets move on to face #5 Washington and Lee in the semifinals on Wednesday in Lynchburg. W&L top Bridgewater earlier on Saturday.

    Cindy Suttora and Carmen Graves each scored a goal as Roanoke shutout Guilford, 2-0, in the ODAC Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon. The third-seeded Maroons move on to face #2 Virginia Wesleyan College in the semifinals on Wednesday in Virginia Beach. The Marlins defeated Randolph-Macon, 3-1, earlier on Saturday.

    Virginia Wesleyan and Randolph-Macon met for the second time in four days, and a pair of second-half goals second the Marlins past R-MC, 3-1, in the ODAC quarterfinals. Second-seeded VWC moves on to face #3 Roanoke in the semifinals on Wednesday in Virginia Beach. The Maroons beat Guilford, 2-0, on Saturday.

    Lynchburg made it through the conference schedule nearly unscathed as the Hornets finished the 2011 ODAC regular season with a 10-0-1 record to secure the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Women’s Soccer Tournament. Second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan, #3 Roanoke and #4 Bridgewater join LC in hosting four quarterfinals on Saturday, October 29.

    Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer has gotten off to a roaring start this season, already climbing the ladders of the top two national polls that benchmark women's soccer. At 8-0, the Marlins are the only undefeated team left in the ODAC women's soccer standings, but plenty of conference schools are making their mark across the country and in the region.
